| salaam, Hear ye, Hear ye... let this meeting come to order.... (always wanted to say that :)) So how many citizens of the madina would like to build a new area for British folks? and what would you like to name it? |

I would have also proposed Brit Alley, but for some reason it conjures up an image of 17th century England and muggers in stockings with short daggers walking down ye dark alleys. Anyhow... | assalaam alaikum, sister kathy has a valid concern, but just to address it, this is a totally different situation than one at our mosques. first of all, the reason for different folders is to separate the masses of information that comes in so people can pick what they would like to read or what they have time to read right then. someone may be feeling down and just comes in and reads the bebzi stand to cheer themselves up, or someone may be interested in what's going on the world and reads the ummah community center. similarly, i doubt every person on this board is interested in hearing all about our organization and community plans in a little town in upstate new york. and althought it may be interesting to read, not everyone has the time to read through all the stuff and it's not conducive to good organization to have 400 people all over the world participating in your discussion about what to do with your community but no one from your local area participating. anyway the albanyia forum and the british forum are not racially separate...they are geographically separate, if there is an event going on in london, i'm sure the londonites want to hear about it, the same as albany. so there's no need to post it all over the boards... now if someone wants to know... hey i live in london are there any conferences coming up they can just drop into the london folder. so using the mosque example, does it make sense to have one big mosque for the entire united states? kinda difficult and overloaded and with that many people it's all bureacracy and nothing gets done... or how bout one mosque for the entire metropolitan area. it's better to have a mosque for every big population of muslims to serve their needs. i hope that no one takes offense about different folders, it will encourage participation locally and impact us globally insha Allah. |

Salam, As A muslim born in Wimbledon, London, UK and now living in Toronto Canada, I think I should contribute something here... If the Brits get a piece of Jannah, well, then, Ain't it all right for CANADA t'get their very own northern portion of Jannah dot org too???? Also with RAMADHAN coming in circa 3 weeks I strongly encourage a RAMADHAN Top level Forum. | Assalam-u-Alaikum, I had the exact same concerns as sis. Kathy when this was announced, but waited for some other people to say something before posating... but when sis. Jannah explained everything I couldn't help but vote "Aye!" Yeah... I don't visit the Albaniya complex either... As for the canadian folder, I don't think there are enough canadians on the board to warrant one... however, I'm all for a DESI FORUM!! Come on... you're all desis at heart. Hehe... if my current username wasn't available i'd be called PROUDTOBEDESI! The Ramadan board is a good idea... a temporary construction for all the issues relating to Ramadan... | assalamu alaikum, yep there are a few canadians on the board, but they are not so keen on becoming regulars due to the typos that litter most of the posts :-) just kidding. i would not recommend adding a desi folder at all. the suggestion of having a brits' folder is different as it is not intended for one ethnic group. it will be for all muslims in the UK serving as a quick reference to the dozen or so UK residents on this board to happennings and events there. what purpose would a desi folder serve when [i]most[/i] people of indian origins on here reside in different areas of the world and outside india/pakistan/bangladish? also, shouldn't the brits vote on what [i]their[/i] forum should be called? wassalam |

The Desi forum, should be called: A B C D : American Born Confused Desis. The Canadian Forum could be called: E F G H : 'Eh' Furum Goes Here: the Brit Forum could be called: Her Majesty's Website. | Assalam-u-Alaikum, How about calling the British forum "Tony Blair's Office" because I've noticed that all the forum;s names seem to be part of a city, for example our city has a stand(bebzi stand), a cafe(Akhwat Cafe), a courtyard(Ramadan), a health club(Ikhwan), a community centre(Ummah community centre), and, well, you get the point. |
