Assalamoalykum,

So now I am the President of MSA. Our first priority is to get a room avialable for the Muslims from the hours of 1 to 3 pm where they can go in and pray individually. Something i am looking forward to with excitement and dread. There hasn't been an MSA at our college for 4 years now. The MSA constitution says that a room be made available to the Muslim students only if no one else is using it. We are inshallah going to change that. I think we have the right to a room or a place where we won't be kicked out of just because someone else wants to use it. That's not fair. In the meanwhile we will settle for it, but we will work on establishing a permanent place. I can see a tough job ahead. But I think our Prayer Director will be able to get us one after some fights though I bet and a lot of compromising.

anyway, its really small right now and our sponsor isn't Muslim. Something that bothers people i think but we couldn't find anyone else. He is really nice though and very enthusiastic.

We are going to throw at least two iftar parties at the college for muslims and non-Muslims as well.

We also want to set up a scholarship, nothing huge, just for the college students and it won't be limited to Muslim students only. We want to give out a scholarship once a semester.

We are going to pass out islamic lit or rather set up a table.

Our other goals: team up with the Christian club and do a few things together.
Invite Hakeem and Mohammad Ali to banquets, of course we won't invite them for the same banquet. :) Sponsor an event with the music department and the multi-cultural department where the non-Muslims as well can come and listen to some clean music. Of course we will let them know about the no hooting or hollering or waving hands in the air rules once they arrive. :) Get local and out ot towners, some famous people mind you, (I have Imam Maalik in mind), to come and give some lectures. Every thursday meet and learn about Islam. There is this really awesome brother by the name of Uthman who knows soooooooo much about Islam. He's majoring in fiqh and shariah besides his other major. Isn't that totally awesome? He's only 18 and he know a lot! mashallah. And he's so humble. I mean, you know, you always hear about being humble and people who are humble, but you never really come across any. He's the second person who I know who is really humble.

Anyway, then we have this girl, she's from thailand, and she is so smart. in short, we have a diverse group, i was surprised when so many ppl from different ethinicites and from different nationalities showed up.

so those of you who are in MYNA and MSA, what do you guys do? (I know about the lots and lots of food, besides that). We need ideas. Please give us some ideas! All these people have never been in an MSA, neither have I. I mean high school was different. I just showed up, helped out with whatever they needed help with and left. I had no clue what they did besides some of the events. Some of the people that showed up and made a commitment, weren't really interested in it and then i dont know what happened, everyone got really excited about it and then everyone found out about it. but i need these people to make long term commitments and not short term ones. The sponsor and other people as well said that we should do fun *and* educational activities for those people. I don't want the enthusiams to die!!
