I read "somewhere" that we should never say the name of this month -alone. That we should always refer to it as the "month of Ramadan"
I can not find the hadith.
Can anyone help me?

Wa alaykum as salam Kathy,

It is NOT true.

Rasul Allah - Sal Allahu alayhi wa sallam - said, "Whoever fasts RAMADAN with faith, hoping for the reward, all his past sins will be forgiven."

Here is a Fiqh maxim if anyone tells you something about Islam:

"If Zayd is claiming something, he must prove it with Daleel; If he is narrating something, he must cite where he got it from."

- otherwise, don't believe ZAYD.

take care

I found it...
This is from a book called "Best month, Best Night"
by el-Sayed Rashad el-Mousoui, Ph.D.

Abhorrence of Saying "Ramadan" Only

According to references too many to enumerate here due to both number and consensus, the greatestMessenger of Allah Muhammed ibn Abdullah (pbuh)....according to Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib, pbuh, said,
" Do not say 'Ramadan' for you do not know what Ramadan realy is; instead, you should say just as the Almighty Allah has said in His Glorious Book ' the month of Ramadan, and whoever says 'Ramadan'(only), let him pay dadaqa (alms) and kaffara (atonement) so that his sins may be forgiven." 1
1Al-Sadooq, in his Connotations of the News, quoting Hisham ibn Salim. Also in Basaair al-Darajaat by Sa'd ibn Abdullah

This seems like a shiite tradition; the author "al-Sadooq" is Abu Ja'far Muhammad bin Ali bin al-Husain bin Babawaih al-Qummi who is an author of shiite books and used to narrate fabricated ahadith.

Assalamoalykum,

How does adding the "The month of" help in expiating the sins???? That just doesn't make sense. For something like that to be true the words should be more than mere ordinary words "The month of". We say "The month of" for so many other months, does that make them special?

If he said that we should seek refuge in Allah from the shaitan before saying Ramadan, which would make better sense than what he said. Even then of course it wouldn't but... you get what i mean?

Wassalam

As salamu alaykum,
Yeah it seems that they are Shia. Evidence is in the fact that they said:

the greatestMessenger of Allah Muhammed ibn Abdullah (pbuh)....according to Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib, pbuh, said,

Notice they said after Ali - Radi Allahu 'anhu - they said, "Peace be upon him". That is what we say for Prophet Muhammad. But because of their exaggeration of Ali's - Radi Allahu 'anhu - they use the same statement.

Then, when they quoted that statement, it was obvious that it is just a blatent lie.  WHO believes that we as Muslims have to pay a penalty for saying Ramadan.  The Prophet - pbuh - said, "Whoever lies on me on purpose, let him choose his place in hellfire."

Ok, someone may ask, "How come just because they are Shia we do not accept what they say?"

It is simple. The fundamentals of Shia'ism are based on the permissibility of lying to defend their beliefs (they call it Taqiyyah). And from their fundamentals is that the Companions of the Prophet - pbuh - are not Muslim and that they are going to Hellfire.

In their latter belief, those that brought us the sayings of Prophet Muhammad - pbuh - were these same companions. Thus, they deny the works of Hadith like Bukhari and Muslim.

Interestingly, I came across a chapter in Bukhari entitled:

"Chapter: Should it be called 'the month' of Ramadan OR Ramadan, and those who consider both permissible."

I was intrigued, so I looked up Fath al-Bari which is a commentary of Bukhari.

Here are some points about the issue:
1. This discussion is based on a weak hadith: [Don't say Ramadan, because Ramadan is one of the names of Allah. Rather say 'the month of' Ramadan.] The Prophet - saws - did not say this.

2. AlBayhaqee said it was not authentic
3. The Hadith book by An-Nasa'i also has a chapter entitled, "Chapter; The permissibility of saying Ramadan instead of 'the month of Ramadan.'
4. Bukhari and an-Nasa'i both mention over 5 hadiths where Ramadan is mentioned without 'the month of..'
5. Although the sweeping majority of the Ummah says it's ok to say Ramadan, there is a minority opinion within the Malikee's that say it is Makruh (disliked) to say Ramadan without the month of.  They have little proof however - and the majority stands.

In conclusion - it's OK to say RAMADAN
*see you just said it :)
