Do you remember when you used to be a kid?

I want to go back to the time when:

* Decisions were made by going, "Eeny-meeny-miney-mo."

* Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "Do over!"

* A "race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.

* Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "Monopoly."

* Catching fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening.

* It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends.

* Being old referred to anyone over 20.

* The net on a tennis court was the perfect height to play volleyball.

* Rules didn't matter.

* The worst thing you could catch from opposite sex was kooties.

* It was magic when Dad would "remove" his thumb.

* It was unbelievable that Dodgeball wasn't an Olympic event.

* Having a weapon in school meant being caught with a slingshot.

* Nobody was prettier than Mom.

* Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.

* It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people" rides
at the amusement park.

* Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true.

* Saturday morning cartoons weren't 30-minute ads for action figures.

* No shopping trip was complete unless a new toy was brought home.

* The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.

* Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.

* Baseball cards in spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.

* Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin.

* Ice cream was considered a basic food group.

* Older siblings were the worst tormentors but also the fiercest protectors.

Asalaamu Alaikum

Oh to be a seven year old once again (instead of just acting like one) :D

Great post bhaloo but what do you mean ice cream was considered a basic food group? ;)

Salamu Aliakom,

I remember way back when I turned 6 and I was in Scotland riding the bus with my mom. Well I was so excited that she had to buy me a full ticket, because usually I'd get half tickets. Hehe needless to say I don't think my mom was very happy about the price hike ;)

I didn't know you British guys eat ice cream, isn't it a little cold out there for ice cream? :)

That was when the older generation always referred to the "good ol days" and you said to yourself 'why must they insist on talking about it?'  That was ancient stuff.

now since I can't relive it, I just talk about those "good ol days"  all the time. it never fails to bring a smile to my face. :)

I fondly remember the jingle playing vans selling ice cream in the UK. I particularly remember when I was 9 or so and we were visiting relatives in Nottingham, I would wait outside every afternoon waiting for the van to come and buy some ice cream :) A few pennies would buy a nice cone :) Other kids would also gather around it. Man, those were really nice times :) nostalgic..

This was in summer. It is usually not that warm there (and it rains a lot also) but these vans, for kids like me, seemed like passages out of fairly tales :)

Wasalaam.

Asalaamu Alaikum :)

There’s plenty of time for eating ice cream between the scones and the tea!

Besides there is strong evidence to suggest that all phish food is high in protein ;)

Asim I'm glad to say the ole ice cream van still does the rounds in the summer :)

Its funny though because when you’re a kid all you want to do is grown up things. But when you’ve grown up all you want to do is kiddie things. I must have missed out on that middle stage when I was perfectly content for all of one second :)

I want to go back to the time when:

    * Decisions were made by going, "what would be most pleasing to Allah?"

    * Mistakes were corrected by simply making Tawbah and then never doing them again.

    * A "race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest to the Masjid when the Adhan was called.

    * Money issues were handled by looking to the Sunnah of the Prophet(PBUH)

    * Catching fireflies got you yelled at by Br. Mokhtar Maghroui for being mean to them.

    * It wasn't odd to have two or three "practicing" friends.

    * Being old referred to anyone who had lost their love for Islam.

    * The net on a tennis court was not too high to be a distraction during an outdoor Halaqa.

    * Rules did matter.

    * The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was punishment from Allah.

    * It was magic when Dad would recite Surah Rahman.

    * It was unbelievable that Quranic recitation wasn't an Olympic event.

    * Having a weapon in school meant being confident and knowledgeable of yourself and your faith.

    * There was nobody we were nicer to than Mom.

    * Everybody in the family was kissed and made better.

    * It was a big deal to fast the 6 days of Shawwal.

    * Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true since getting stuck inside reminded us that we had promised to memorize the 30th Juz.

    * Saturday mornings weren't wasted watching cartoons when it was one of the few times the whole family could spend time together.

    * No shopping trip was complete unless a new Islamic book was brought home.

    * The worst embarrassment was forgetting Allah.

    * Knowledge was the ultimate weapon.

    * Baseball cards in spokes reminded people of excess money that could be given as Sadaqah.

    * Getting "high" referred to someone peacefully immersed in remembrance of Allah.

    * Giant Medjool Dates were considered a basic food group.

    * Older siblings were the most gentle people but also the fiercest protectors.
