Common Da'wah Questions

Assalaamu alaikum,

Need help on combating these common questions and comments by non-muslims:

-Why do you Muslims have beards?

-Why did Prophet Muhammad SAWS go out and conquer other lands? Just to conquer? Convert? Not all were retaliations.  (e.g. spain, n. africa)

More to come INSHALLAH!

Jazakumullahu Khair,

Ikrima.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

Hmm one thing you could say is that it's something that distinguishes and identifies you as a Muslim, and Muslims try to show the fact that they are Muslim in everything about them, the way they act, speak, dress...

Also it distinguishes a man from a woman, Islam is all about women being women [:-)]and men being men [;-)]

You could also mention that Muhammad peace be upon him had a beard and Muslims try to emulate him.. this might need some more explanation though, so perhaps bring this point up if you have enough time to discuss it.

Another thing I've heard is that it is out of modesty... from what I can understand this is said because it conceals a part of the man's face... hmm i don't really know that much about this one though..

just some suggestions :)

wasalaam.

salaam,

sister Se7en is right that "Islam is all about women being women and men being men".
But you have to remember that Muslims aren't the only ones that grow beards, Hasidic Jews and Orthodox Sikhs keep beards as well.  So, you really have to know what you're talking about when they (non-Muslims) inquire about this particular subject.

Honestly, I can't think of something that makes sense right now besides what Se7en has already said.  But just keep that in mind.
