As salaamu alaykum, sister, welcome to the Madina board and inshallah we will benefit by your presence here and vice versa. However, i wanted to point out that the consequences of not praying {hadeeth????} which you posted {I know you did not write it, so inshallah there is no blame on you from this aspect}, one needs to verify its' authenticity before one propagates it, for these punishments, especially those related to those in the grave and the next life is a matter of the unseen and only Allah Himself and through His messenger {saw} has the ability to inform us of what will happen in the "ghayb". Hence, whoever claims such and such will happen in the grave, on the day of judgement, or anything that is related to this deen, it is af if he is saying "the Prophet said ..............", thus, we say to him "name your men", i.e. show us by means of authentic sources that the messenger {saw} said this, which = Al Bukhari, Muslim and so on.
 The reason why i am emphasizing this point is because us muslim live in time where deviance is like African killer bees, i.e. it is increasing everyday and is attacking from all over, and we have to be more scholarly and not just accept something because it sounds good, or such and such person said it, but weight it against what Allah says and what His messenger came with, if it agrees with it, we accept it, if not we reject it regardless of who said it, and this is how we worship Allah. As Imam malik said "everyone we accept and reject from them, except the one in this grave {pointing to the grave of the messenger saw}. And may Allah forgive us for our sins and guide us to that which is correct. {and as i said before "marahaban", no hard feelings, but as the messenger {saw} said "the deen is sincere advice"}

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

Hmm.. from what I understand no one's been able to verify the authenticity of that hadeeth.  I think br. Bhaloo knows more about this.

Also, where in the Qur'an does it say "Say your prayers before prayers for you are said"?

It's good advice, (I've gotten this fwd a couple times :)) but we need to be sooo careful about attributing things to the Quran and to Muhammad peace be upon him.

"Name your men"  That's cool, I like that, but it *should* be "Name your men and women" because there are so many women that are known for their narrations, amazing scholars.  And there is not one woman muhaddith (muhadditha?) who's known to have fabricated a hadeeth!  Isn't that interesting? :-)

Anyway, gift, welcome to the board. :)  Hope we didn't scare you away ;)

wasalaam.

I think I must have received that punishments dying/grave/day of judgement/prayer email at least 5-7 times and always wanted to forward it to my Islamic maillist (consisting of about 500+ people) but I never did, because whenever I asked people who sent me it if the information was authentic, no one could verify this, so i couldn't send it out, because i didn't know if it was authentic or not.

Brother Hisham, when are you posting more works from Ibn Qayyim that you are translating? ???

Wa alaykum as salaam, sister 7, actually the "name your men" phrase {in your case "nisa'} is from ibn Sireen {one of the great tabieen} who said that we used to accept hadeeth just like that {with no isnaad}, then when the fitnah broke out and people began lying to spread their bidah, we said "name your men"..ie. who you got this hadeeth from?
  As for the works of ibn Qayyim it has been a while since i read any of his book, and i usually tend to translate something during {or soon after}my reading of it, if really impresses me. As for now i am reading Al Albani's "Hijab Al Mar'atul Muslimah" - The hijab of a muslim woman, the book is quite interesting, indepth, scholarly and quite convincing, especially where he discusses wether or not the hands and the face is part of a womans awrah, i.e.is it obligatory on her to wear the niqaab. But this is a whole next topic, probably if i come across something good soon i will post it.

Actually brother Abu Khaled sent me and a few other brothers an extremely detailed explanation from Sheikh Albany (perhaps it was from the book) explaining the hijab.  Its a really lengthy article, I'll look for it and insha'Allah post it.
