slm,

we are having a sisters eid event in our community and would like to do something like the event/fashion show at this past isna. basically have themes and then between each have like a skit or some poetry or have the little girls sing a song..

so far we'd like the little girls to sing dawud wharnsby's hijab song.. but other than that i'm not sure what else to program in.. anyone have any favorite poems or anything?

Salaam alaykum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatuhu,

Maybe you could have the little girls recite parts of the Qur'an where women are being ordered to wear hijab?

wlm,

umm there will be alot of ppl who don't wear hijab regularly in the audience, we want this to be a positive dawah event for sisters.  i don't think the ayahs will do that right now but maybe later..jazaki allah khair tho :)

hmm thinking about this now i can't think of a single sister who has started wearing hijab because of someone telling them the verses or hadiths. everyone knows them and we all made up excuses for not doing it...until something positive happenned in our lives that brought us to wear it.

slm,
I agree with you Jannah, it wouldn't be too appropriate.  But I am a sister who started hijab after hearing a certain ayah from the Qur'an, actually it was the tafsir.

Assalaamu alaikum,

Me again in the sisters forum...

How about a skit on those hilarious hijab stories? They are fun and motivating too.

Jannah,

I am little confused about why it's inappropiate, could you explain? My reason behind my suggestion was that to hear a child recite the Qur'an can be touching. I watched children at the Islamic school in my town recite the Qur'an and it brought tears to my eyes. My knowledge of the arabic language is not very great, so i can only imagine the effect recitation of the Qur'an could have on me if i know what is being said. Basically my point was that a little girl in hijab reciting would look very cute, mothers might take her as an example and start dressing their daughters in that way and hopefully themselves too....

salaams,
welll..there are quite a few arabic nasheeds on hijab...i'm sure you can get an arabic sister to direct you to one insha'allah..

one that comes to mind at the moment is...it starts like.."al infidaahh tul muslimah al muslimah.."

hijab skits always works...the funny reactions or scenarios that comes along with it..i think a cool islamic khutbah about it would be cool too..?

umm...i know that having hijab/jilbabs being sold at the event actually encourages ppl to buy them b/c they like the designs...and so...even though they might not be really interested or accept the concept totally...they can be influenced..reinforcing the concept that consumerism/marketing is powerful and influenceable! :P

sounds like fun....can you do the whole show here too? :)

wa salaams.
