Maqam Ibrahim?

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatahu

At the time of Hajj, with the sheer number of people, how does one pray the two raka'ahs at Maqam Ibrahim? I understand that you can pray it anywhere in the masjid, not necessarily anywhere near the Maqam, but my question is how can u even make salah when everyone else is doing tawaf?? will you get run over? or are there some places where ppl are just doing the sunnah of the Maqam?

wlm,

There are always ppl who try to get right in front of the maqam and start praying and if ur doing tawaf that makes it real annoying  because you must go around the maqam for your tawaf to be valid and you end up weaving through all these people. most of the time the guards will hussle them out of there or try to keep them back so there's always a nice flow of tawaf. As for praying you can pray as far back as you can (follow the black marble line) in the general direction of the maqam. Also don't forget you can go up on the second floor and also, believe it or not you can go down to the zamzam areas below and you'll see a glass enclosure which is the maqam that you can pray towards. Lastly if you cannot do any of those you are allowed to pray your 2 rakats anywhere in the haram. This is in Umrah time, since your question seems to be about Hajj time I guess we'll wait and see if anyone can answer that.

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

At Hajj time the problem is just worse because of the increased number of people but otherwise its as Sr Jannah described.

assalamu alaikum...ok i know this board is for like Ghazzali-esque reflections, but I can't resist...Imam Mokhtar the other day was commenting on how some large tour groups of brothers lock arms and move like an army, describing how it is like a locomotive, and how if ur in their path, in his own words, "ur gone"...having both seen and fallen victim to such an irresistable force many years ago, i could hardly contain my smile...(wasn't smiling then though) :)

of course he mentioned it out of disapproval and sadness over the state of many pilgrims today...one thing he said which i think is a great piece of advice to all of us out there going for hajj is for us to give up our right there to others...that is don't get involved and caught up with misguided people's jockeying for position, pushing and other garbage...

anyways, i'm not really answering the brother/sister's question...and I am sort of wondering about it myself...guess i'll find out in a few weeks inshallah...inshallah i'll avoid getting run down by another train :)

wassalam

slm,

click on the "help" link up there !! it has all the shortcuts..:-)

btw i didn't hear that part that bro mokhtar was talking about but it does make it extremely difficult when groups decide they absolutely MUST stick together like rugby players on the offense throughout the tawaf.. i just can't understand why... they should take the time and reflect on their own and do their tawaf individually... i know alot of people are repeating after their imam guy but i'd have to ask if they're going to do that on the Day of J too!!!

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

On a more serious note, one thing that br. Mokhtar mentioned yesterday that I thought was really beautiful was in his discussion on the virtues of hajj.  He mentioned how each person who is going to hajj needs to prepare themselves intellectually and emotionally to understand what exactly he or she is about to do.  Allah is calling us to hajj, and we respond to His call with the talbiyah, "Labayk Allahumma labayk..." and when we go, we are His *guests* at His *house*.  SubhanAllah, the way he explained this was really beautiful.  Basically he said that we have to go with the state of mind that we are going as guests to the house of the most generous of hosts... and He azzawajal will honor us, and He will shower us with gifts.  He, out of His generosity, will grant his guests the gift of Jannah because there's a hadeeth that says, "a hajj that is mabroor, the reward of it is nothing less than jannah", and another gift is to return to our lives as pure and free from sin as a new born baby.

subhanAllah, may Allah accept your hajj and may He facilitate all of us to embark on that journey...

wasalaam. :-)

And physically too!

You may laugh but as soon as I knew I was going I started running and jogging in an attempt to get myself fit. I didn't want anything to distract me in my Ibadah whilst I was out there.

Alhamdulillah it went okay but I came back absolutely shattered both physically and emotionally. I'm so glad I took a week off work when I came back!!

jazkaallah khair Br. Khalid...

particularly for brothers going for the first time, prepare the ihram too..it helps to get used to it and become familiar about how to wear and how to move in it...otherwise you might be caught off guard (or worse caught by a guard :))unsuspectedly and that's the last thing you want...so we should do ourselves the favor now so we're not constantly worrying about falling during ramal, or worse yet, the izar itself falling...

it's not funny, it happens to ppl...

wa alaikum salam...
