| Usury Free Living Organized Under Laws of District of Columbia Code After 8 years of hard work, valuable contributions and must sweat equity from ten individuals, Usury Free Living met all the provisions of the Limited Liability Act of the District of Columbia and was awarded a certificate of organization on the 7th day of February, 2001. In 1993, Usury Free Living was little more than a dream and a business card. Terry Mohammad Tahir believed that Muslims not only could do a better job living by Shari'ah but that there were elements Shari'ah law that would benefit the American free enterprise system. Coming across DRIPs (Dividend Re-Investment Programs) almost by accident (Mr. Tahir likes to say that Allah lead him to them), he immediately notice that most of them meet the criterion of Islamic law where Allah permits trade but forbids usury (riba). Today, Usury Free Living encourages Muslims living in America to participate in 4 or 5 such programs as one way to avoid the pitfalls of usury in America society. The US financial markets are both deep and wide and offer opportunities that cannot be found any other place in the world. With a Shari'ah Supervisory Board of three noted Imams, Usury Free Living feels that it is in a position to offer sound Qur'anic based advise to the growing Muslim community in the United States. Currently, writing flat-fee financial plans for individuals and small businesses, Usury Free Living hopes to be able to offer a complete line of halal food products along with a line of female and male halal clothing. According to Mr. Tahir, one does not need to compromise his religious principles to live a more prosperous life. "In his book, Critical Path, R. Buckminister Fuller claims that the earth can support 55 billion people all of them living as billionaires, if only they would give up usury, I want to create the opportunities for all of us to live richly," Mr. Tahir said. Terry Mohammad Tahir has been joined by Dr. Imad ad-Dean Ahmad, David Bottorff, Imam Ghayth Nur Kashif, John Knotts, Imam Mutee Mulazim, Imam Bilal Ali Prather, Warner Sessions, Steve Zarpas and Edward Zipeto in creating Usury Free Living with little money and much sweat equity. Without the help of any of the 10 individuals, and the permission of Allah, Usury Free Living would not have come into existance on February 7, 2001. | AA I looked up the web site, it appears very dodgy. There is an article on the web site in which an "Imam" is claiming that interest based loans are haram. Also, there is an article which refers to the "Honourable Elijah Mohammed". Be careful! |
