| I was at Border looking at magazines...hoping that maybe they started carring Muslim magazines. I thought I had found one because I could see, what looked like a woman in hijab. Excited, I picked up the magazine and loudly gasped! This was the Premire Issue of a new Jewish magazine and on the cover (as big as day) was a man dressed exactly like a woman (with make-up), in an abaya and kimar brandishing a shiny gun! The title was something like..."The new threat" or something of that fashion. I think my heart might have stopped. I think this was negative blow to women in hijab and foreign women in hijab.A horrible blow to Muslim in general!!! What a horrible image. I've been meaning to go back and get the name of the magazine and write to the editor. If I do obtain that information, would anyone be interested in writing letters as well?? I don't know what else to do....yet I feel something should be done. People can just put whatever they want on magazine covers these days! Jazakullah |

Insha'Allah I will send one individually and draft another for the chair of the Federation of Muslim Women (canadian org; http://www.fmw.org) to send from our organization as well. I suggest that you involve other muslim women organizations and solicit a direct response from them such as well such as the 1. Muslim Women League (american org; contact info at http://www.mwlusa.org/welcome.html) and 2. Canadian Council of Muslim Women ( http://www.ccmw.com ) |

| slm I too, will write, insha'Allah. JazakeAllahKhair for bringing this to our attention Safia. I do think though that this thread should have been started in the Ummah Community Center. Even though this magazine twists the image of a Muslim woman, these types of issues concern all of us. I think it would be great if everyone wrote to the editor-brothers & sisters. |
