NBC TO AIR FILM FEB. 18 ABOUT BAHRAINI PRINCESS

Original commercial for film used stereotypical language and images

(WASHINGTON, DC - 2/15/2001) - On Sunday, February 18 (9-11 p.m. ET), NBC
will air a film called "The Princess and the Marine" dealing with "young
lovers from two different worlds whose forbidden romance recently made
international headlines in this two-hour original movie based on the true
love story between U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Jason Johnson and Bahraini
princess, Meriam Al-Khalifa." (Go to: http://www.nbcmv.com. Click on
"Program Information," then on the film's title.)

CAIR has been in contact with NBC since concerned Muslims complained about
stereotypical content in a commercial that aired in January. CAIR convinced
NBC to change the commercial and the network offered assurances that the
film itself would not stereotype Islam, Muslims or Bahraini society. Despite
these assurances concerns remain about the film's content.

Excerpts from just a few of the complaints CAIR received: (unedited)
Deanna from Illinois: In the commercial, they portray Muslims as harsh,
oppressive, staunchly anti-American and Anti-Christian. They state that in
Islam, women must be kept behind veils because "they are weak and
susceptible to temptation." The narrator also describes the princess as
trapped by her culture, and they show an image of her (the actress
portraying her) forcedly making sujood in prayer. It is an extremely
horrible portrayal of Islam and Muslims, and all of this can be discerned
from a mere commercial. It is frightening to think what the entire movie
will be like.

Jill from Seattle: I am not a sensitive woman, but this made me very angry,
frustrated, and more offended than I have ever been in my life.  A voice
over is saying that women must "wear the veil as they are weak." The girl
replies, "I am a strong Muslim!" next shot is her in spandex kissing the
marine.

Sara: Among the more insulting and inflammatory images and words: "She was
born into royalty" (images of the actress in palaces, surrounded by
luxurious things) "and enslaved by tradition." (image of the actress in
in
hijab making sujud [praying])..."

NBC's own press materials use inaccurate and stereotypical language such as:
"I did the worst thing I could do: I have married a white man, an American
and a Christian. All are forbidden to me," says Al-Khalifa. And: "Always
strong-willed and an independent thinker in a country which defines a
woman's role in the most traditional and strict Islamic sense." All of this
is said to be "based on a true story."

ACTION REQUESTED: (As always, be firm but POLITE. Hostile comments can and
likely WILL be used to further stereotype Islam and Muslims.)

1. Watch the film if you are prepared to offer constructive critical
analysis.

2. Make note of any concerns you have about the film's content.

3. Contact NBC to express your concerns. (If you did not have a problem with
the film's content, you may also make note of that fact.)

Asalm walakum
The main reason for any movie industry in any country is to distribute state propaganda. America wants to propagate one view of Islam. She wants Muslims to behave more like the Princes ***** and wants people to think true Islam is a barbaric way of life, no different to the Christianity of the inquisitions. The justification they gave for lunching the gulf war was “We are correcting the lord for placing oil with such a barbaric people”.
My point for writing this is not to tell you that the kaffar hate us, we all know this.
What I want to do is tell you the truth about the Muslim lands America wants to westernise. It is a KNOWN FACT that the rulers and their families of the Muslim world in general and the gulf countries in particular, have no love for Islam or its laws.
Saudi Princess and Princesses are famous for their homosexuality and depravity.
Westerners educate these people, they know English and French more then they know Arabic. I have seen rich Saudis in England; allot of the women dress worse then the English. Bahrain is a land full of brothels, bars, nightclubs and other fornication institutions, the government gives them permits to be there, not only do they protect them from harm but arrests people for even speaking out against this practice. It is also true that people who practice Islam in Bahrain are tortured vary badly. Veiled women are striped by men and filmed in torture chambers. Many westerners’ staff Bahrainis internal security and the person in charge is a British citizen, from Scotland.
The only reason the Americans are there is that the kings allows them to be there, we all know why sailors and soldiers like shore leave. The king knows it, that’s why he permits them to come in. Harley street is a place in England where the rich get treated, it is common for rich Arab girls to go there once they have decided to get married after life of fornication, so the gullible husband to be thinks his the first. The princesses running around like a semi naked tart with dirty kaffar men is not what is unusual here, that’s a common practice among people who don’t fear Allah, There aren’t many people who fear Allah less then the rulers and their families. What’s happened is that she ran off with the dirty kaffar, the move industry is just using her story to have a dig at Islam, if she never existed they would have used some thing else.

Hee hee.  The "Sara" in the Action Alert is me.  LOL.. Except when I first wrote to CAIR, I was apparently the first one who saw the commercial, and NBC hadn't promoted the movie on their site yet, and they (CAIR) had no idea what I was talking about.

I was *wondering* if they finally saw the commercial after I saw NBC had removed the most offensive stuff.

Assalam ualykum,

She's married to a Morman and still prays? I mean come on, what excuse does she give in her prayers to Allah for such a big sin? As far as I'm concerned, she's no princess but a ... never mind.

this is the second 'princess' who has done someting big that made the news in America right?

Back then it was some saudi princess who committed zina and was executed?

anyway, what i want to know is how did she meet him that she fell in love with him?

The Saudi princess is old news.  Happened in the late '70's I think.  BBC made a documentary about it.  Edward Said wrote about it in his book 'Covering Islam.'  I can't remember if she actually commited zina (and even if she did, there weren't you know...4 male witnesses and all that) or if she just commited the "crime" of trying to elope with a "commoner," but both she and the guy were executed by a firing squad.

Yeah, Said is a Protestant Christian from  Palestine.  He has a memoir of his life that came out last year.  I read part of it, but really... I find his other books to be more interesting. :)

Salaam 'Alaikum

No, the story of the Saudi Princess who was actually executed was told in a BBC documentary.  As far as I know, there was never an entire book written about the incident.

Those Jean Sassoon books are completely made up, but *somehow,* this person who is a member of one of Britain's most powerful Zionist families manages to get them published under the guise of "non fiction," and people accept them as true.  This is despite the fact that she was sued for plagarism for the first one.  It seems that her agent passed on to a diary written by a Belgian woman who'd been married to a Kuwaiti man. The Belgian lady had the same agent as Sassoon, but the agent didn't think that she (the Belgian) had the name recognition of Sassoon, who'd just released the widely distributed propaganda piece "Rape of Kuwait."  Sassoon changed the Belgian wife to a Saudi Princess, embellished some incidents, made a whole bunch of others up, and published a book that is still being heralded as a "shocking" look into the "real" life of Muslim Arab women.  @@

Look, Sassoon admitted on BBC Domestic in November of 1998 that she'd made the stories up.  I'm not sure exactly what the outcome of the lawsuits was (if they  have even been resolved yet), but her publishers dropped her, and if you notice, her latest book is self-published.  Her agent admitted under oath that she was a plagarist.  Friends of hers admitted under oath in depositions that she told them she stole the manuscript and made most of it up.  Saudis testified on behalf of the Belgian woman that quite a few of the "incidents" that supposedly went on in Riyadh in her (Sassoon's) book were completely made up and never happened (b/c Riyadh isn't a big town, and if stuff like this was going on, people would have known.)

And I didn't mean to dis Edward Said, it's just that I find his "journalistic" or essay type writing to be more engaging.

that 70s movie you all are referring to is "death of a princess"...we have it somewhere..i remem parts of it only...some stupid movie..

well..to tell you the truth, i wasn't annoyed by the movie by the Princess & the Marine b/c it just showed you how trashy meriam really is...how she's the one who went after him etc...and reveals her true character...it shows her stupidity and lack of modesty and lack of faith....i think the only time she prayed was that time her mother requested her to with her..? that was pretty cool and interesting how her mother afterwards regretted that they didn't do the veil..

and like the person mentioned earlier..we know that such families exist and that they are corrupted etc...however, i don't think they emphasized it as a rep of Islam? or i just didn't see it that way? (and i usually get annoyed by such manipulating media lies)

i liked her friend who wore the scarf! masha'allah she was sooo cuuuute (her behavior!) she was such a good girl lol and was acting totally naturally! ;) a more muslim character! ;)

what was also smirking..was the part when she's at the airport and she's playing with the gambling machine..(i forgot wht it's called lol i'm sleepy) and asks him about it and he replies, i can't i'm morman..mormans don't gamble...hello...so doesn't she know muslims don't either? ;) oh well..maybe he could make her into a good mormon :P

but really...good riddance to bad rubbish..the whole movie just displayed how stupid and "free"/corrupted and wild she really was...

dad kept commenting on how some muslim prince should come and woo chelsea to a muslim country, wearing hijab etc and to convert to islam...and hillary reacting..you can't do this..what will the ppl who voted for me think? the jews etc? :P

sleepy wa salaams
