Weirdos in the ice cream shop

The other day I was at the local ice cream shop getting some ice cream.  Before anyone says, what's this weirdo doing getting ice cream in the middle of winter, let me remind you all that the place I live in doesn't have snow, and the winters are very mild, with temperatures dipping into the mid 50s at one extreme and at times going as high as in the 80s.  Anyways, while I was getting ice cream I observed some really strange behavior in the store.

Two high school girls were there getting ice cream as well.  A third girl joined them with a boy.  This is when things started to get really bizarre.  The boy picks up one of the girls and starts twirling her around in the air like a horse on a carousel.  After this strange behavior, both of them proceed to wrestle in the middle of this ice cream store.  This goes on for a few minutes with apparently no clear winner to this wrestling match, nor did anyone call the police.  Not only has this boy embarassed the entire male gender by losing to a girl and hence given women a false sense that they can actually beat up men but he and this girl engaged in inappropriate behavior with apparently no shame.

To my relief, their ice cream order is ready to be picked up and they stop their foolishness to go join the other 2 girls to pick up their order and leave.  But just as they are about to leave, the boy spanks all 3 of the girls, and all of them laugh.

Maybe I don't know what's going on out in the world, because I spend a large part of my time in a cubicle with computers.  But is this a common occurence out there?

It was very shameful and disgusting, and people wonder why there are so many violent crimes committed against women in the US.  It seems to me that inappropriate behavior such as this will only lead to problems.

being flirtatious and pretending to be "innocent" has always been around..guys will only mess around with a girl like that, IF she allows it..if the girl he was fighting with told him to stop, he woulda..girls try to be "cute" and mess around..and then panic if the guy gets the wrong signal and forces his ways..

just my 2 cents..ma'salaam ;-D

Akhee, thats nothing. I got the shock of my life when i got off the train today! As i walked out of the station i saw a hijaabi & some Muslim guy French kissing on the pavement!

It was such a shock that all i could manage was a cough as i walked by. Now i kick myself for not having walked up to them and told them off.

Meraj, glad to see you joined us. :)

Kashif, wow, sounds pretty bad.  I wonder how many of us would actually go up to them and speak to them about this?  If any of you came across Muslims doing inappropriate behavior like Kashif mentioned, would you go up to them and voice your concern?  Or would you ignore them?

If I saw two Muslim people who are married doing something considered
inappropriate, I would probably say nothing because after all, they ARE
married.  At least, it's halal.  Although, if it was in a place like a
masjid, where it could cause fitna, then I would probably *think* it
was wrong but I still wouldn't say anything.  It funny though, with
Muslims, we could work with something. What I mean is that, if you went up
to two non-Muslims and told them what you thought, their probably gonna
laugh at you and tell you to get out of the 1500's.  With two Muslims,
hopefully, their would be more respect and consideration and more fear
of Allah.  SoubhanALlah, these things are a sign of the Day of
Judgment.  People have lost their modesty and shyness and can do almost
anything with no fear whatsoever.

Salamu Aliakom,

Yeah I think ppl these days don't care about what they do in public anymore. Whether it is PDA (public display of affection) or whatever. I don't think it has to do with you being in your cubicle all day Arshad, just that there are a lot of freaks out there nowadays.

The other day in college, i was waiting in my car before class started and i saw this guy empty out a ton of trash from his car onto the parking lot. Yeah right onto the parking lot. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

Arshad bro... hate to say it but that's nothing.  I don't know what it was like when you were in highschool/college, but I encounter things like that everyday.  I'm trying to think of an example I can share with you, but most are not things I'd care to repeat, know what I mean?

And people always wonder why I stare at the ground when I walk..

Its a sorry state of affairs we have to get used to. It even happens at work where people talk dirty and then in the afterwork get together act upon their words. When I don't go or get involved, they think I'm a weido or homo.

I know about Hijabis who meet up with guys from the internet, even during Ramadan.

Even worse, the other day I saw a hijabi with some Sikh guy. He looked like such a loser and couldn't understand what she was doing with him. It made my blood boil.

I really pray for our muslim brothers and sisters, that they don't get corrupted by the kuffr lifestyle and Allah protect them from such filth. They'll only end up regetting it.

Okay can I sit on the fence and say it depends?;-)

If I didn't know any of them, I think I'd probably ignore them but maybe that's more a symptom of weakness in faith than anything else.

However even if you did have the courage to approach them, you'd have to be careful in what you said since no one likes to be reprimanded and thus you'd probably have to be careful you didn't inflame the situation.

If I knew the Brother well, I may have a quiet word with him in private at some other time and try to raise the topic with him and explain to him what is expected of him in public.
And people always wonder why I stare at the ground when I walk..
Unfortunately this doesn't work for the brothers!

Or maybe it's just the case here in Texas, where it's ALWAYS hot (pretty much)!

The reason?  Girls wearing shorts/mini-skirts all year long.  Walking behind them on a crowded campus (40,000 students at A&M) while lowering your gaze means you're staring at their legs.

[sigh]

Talk about fitnah!

 oh my goodness..i'm sorry but i just *had* to laugh re the comment of not being able to stare at the ground b/c you  might stare at some female legs... ;) a funny thought..or even weird male legs.. :P

salaams..
well...i obviously didn't see what you saw, bro bear..i'm not sure if they were just "playing around" or if they were seriously beating each other up? unfortunately it is usually all fun & games..esp if they're all "intimate" and "close friends" with each other...? not halal for us muslims ofcourse..

 woow! see...THAT'S pretty disturbing..seeing muslim couples (hopefully MARRIED ones?) publicly showing affection..unfortunately most of us are brought up in the west and are accustomed to such reactions/thoughts of being public ...and so...some muslims assume...if u substitute it with a muslim spouse while in public..it's ok...but um...ur just causing fitnah for others..and you're allowing others to see you in your most private moment...allowing them to envision sick thoughts etc..i know for those born here wouldn't think twice about how they're reacting b/c you just don't think about it...but..it is something that should be addressed...it might take away some of the "fun" but i guess that's what big huge private backyards are for.. :P ;)

hmm...well...if you knew the person personally..and they looked up to you..giving them naseehah in the best kindest way would work..or showing your disproval (gently?) might work..or if you are just one of those dynamic confident ppl who can effectively correct ppl without making them feel bad...go for it!

it is quite disgusting outside...not all of it i think is meant to be disgusting..but ppl are just so public..it's just so "american"  you know? like how the europeans envision us..big..(well some of us not all lol), loud, ppl.. ;) unfortunately ppl think if you're publicly intimate it shows your "gentle" and "caring" side..which is cool and great..but it should be privately done..you can be caring and sweet without going that far in public.. ;)

and other times..ppl are just outrageously nasty and proud of it...ewwww...it's like you have to constantly look away or put certain ppl on "ignore"!  or either they're dressed in scantily clad outfits..and the sleazy behaviour esp by "muslims"...and foul language..aghh, everytime i hear a word in passing, i cringe!! i've forgotten such words exist in certain ppl's vocabulary!

it's time for us to all take a cleansing bath and purify ourselves to the fullest! :( start handing out zamzam to all the troubled muslims :P jk.

OHHH and one last thing...ice cream is ESP fun when it's COLLLLLD OUTSIDE!!! where's the (extra cool) fun when it's just normal or hot weather? my sibs and i when traveling and if it was cold, would esp ask for ice cream then!! :)

i scream
you scream
we all scream for ICE CREAM! :)

wa salaams..

I know I sound weak when I say this, but this is true: it's a fitnah.  A BIG fitnah!

you're right..it's technically NOT funny...it just sounded amusing at first.. ;) but masha'llah kudos to all the bros who are keeping the faith real and to all those who are constantly doing jihadu nafs masha'allah!! :) it's inspiring and is awesomely beautiful besides it strengthening everyone's iman! :)

just looking straight ahead...or not reallly squaring in on how the person looks like etc..helps...? :)

hamza yusuf (does this get everyone's attention now? :P) used to at times..atleast in the beginning of his public speaking career (don't know about now?) would like...cross his eyes or something..like not really look at you...

that works...not focusing really on those in front of you..or just looking at their heads..or the beautiful scenery of the nature around u! but then again, i dont know how crowded your campus is like..mine's pretty spacey alhamdulillah.. :)

I know a Brother who is short sighted and sometimes takes off his glasses when travelling. He can still see people but can't really focus in on them. Certainly helps not going for that second look when the first look is unclear in the first place.

Subhanallah how a supposed "defect" in vision can sometimes bring a blessing!!

Assalam ualykum,

I got the shock of my life a week ago when walking to my car i noticed used contraceptives everywhere on the ground around cars???

Oh get this, the other day, I got another shock when I saw this guy passing free contraceptives and i asked my friend what the hell he was doing. but i was loud so that he heard me and offered me one!! I could feel myself turning red! I couldn't speak and walked away quickly. Later i got the nerve to go to the table to see what sort of pamphlets were they selling. they were promoting acceptance of homosexuality and safe sex.

i asked the guy at the table if he was gay and guess what he said. he said that "well, i don't consider myself gay because I have only been attractive to a guy once. I'm actually a monk."

my gosh colleges have a lot of weird people!

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

This seriously works.  It's more like a blank stare, where you don't really let what you see register with you.  I think New Yorkers have this look down solid, you can see it when they walk by guys selling stuff on the streets and they act like they don't even exist.  You kind of stare through people, don't really focus on them.

It's a good way to fake eye contact for those who insist on it, and for those times you have to look up when trying to maneuver your way through the halls at school, the mall etc but don't want to catch site of something you shouldn't.

I get some weird reactions from people when I look down... the standard response is "are you ok?"  as if I'm sad and dejected, or angry or something.  Hahaha, one time this guy kept looking at his shoes, and at the ground, wondering what I was looking at.

Brothers do have it rough.  We live in a society and a time where a lot of women have no sense of self-respect and enjoy being looked at.  What makes it worse is that I know of some girls who specifically... appreciate... Muslim guys more than non because Muslim guys have some sense of decency and treat them with some sort of respect..

I just feel the need to quote this here...

This is my jihad jihad of the nafs
This is my jihad jihad of the nafs
battle of the soul against shaytan and the rest
I got my uzi of Eman
my bazooka of Qur'an
my m-16 of my Deen of Islam
droppin bombs on shaytan with Islam as my main gun
he tells me to do wrong, I say ain't gonna have none of that
grenades yo of taqwaah on my back
bayonet of regret if I ever get trapped
I got the sunnah of the prophet as my fully automatic
i've been beaten by the devil many times and i've had it..
this is my jihad jihad of the nafs..

dont you think its a little presumptuous to call everyone a weirdo and
a kafir? calling someone a kafir is no small thing, and some of these
people do become muslims. this malcolm x, for example, used to sleep
around and did become muslim in prison -- some people do change their
ways, you know.

as to american ways being the ultimate in over-active libidos?
europeans consider americans prudes, big time. try going to rome if you think
americans do a lot of public displays. try going to russia and see
people on the beach doing all sorts of stuff under blankets. sure, all this
stuff is racy, but it's not some sort of "weird american phenomenon"
that either the rest of the world doesn't have, or that they got from
americans.
