as'salaamualikum :)

i'm big on quotes..and i don't think there is a thread here on it, so i thought i'd start 1 :) some of my favorites r in bold :) enjoy :) ma'salaam ;-D

*anger is a condition in which the tongue works faster than the mind
*the purpose of criticism is to help, not to humiliate
*if u r patient in one moment of anger, u will escape a 100 yrs of sorrow
*when push comes to shove..don't fall down
*what the wise do in the beginning, fools do in the end
*confidence comes not from always being right..but from not fearing to be wrong
*never interrupt ur enemy when he is making a mistake
*live all ur todays like u have no more tomorrows
*in the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends
*there are as many paths to god as there are human breaths
*a well timed silence is more eloquent than words
*receive wealth and prosperity without arrogance, and be prepared to let it go..in a little while u will have forgotten everything..in a little while everything will have forgotten u
*never confuse movement with action
*once the game is over..the king and pawn go back into the same box
*a man who wants to do something will find a way; a man who doesn't will find an excuse
*re-examine all that u have been told, dismiss what insults ur soul
*some of us think holding on makes us strong; but sometimes it is letting go
*be soo good, they can't ignore u

Let me throw in a few more to go along with the Gladiator quote you mentioned.

What we do in life, echoes in eternity.
At my command, unleash hell.
In this world or the next, I will have justice.

hmmm, maybe he said vegeance?  I have a few more around here. :)

Those were nice quotes princess :)  The only one I don't get is this-
in the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends

true friends won't fight against you even if they think you're wrong???

I really like this quote, one of my all time favorites.

"Knowledge is a comforting friend in times of loneliness, it is the best companion during travels, and it is the inner friend who speaks to you in your privacy. Knowledge is the discerning proof of what is right and what is wrong, and it is the positive force that will help you surmount the trials of comfort, as well as those of hardships. Knowledge is your most powerful sword against your enemy, and finally, it is your most dignifying raiment in the company of your close companions."

Salaams :-)

Here's a few more princess....

friendship is like money
Easier made than kept

Time is of the essence

Fools who laugh on earth
shall weep in hell

Live like you will live forever
Pray like today is all you have

Yesterday is a spent cheque
Today is a cashed cheque
Tomorrow is a promisary note

After every sadness
comes a happiness

When one door closes
another one opens

The future is bright
the future is orange j/k :-)
in the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends
It means something quite different to me.

Imagine you're black and living in America in the 1960s. When someone oppresses you, you'll be more infuriated by your friends who kept silent when they saw your enemies committing an injustice against you. If they were your friends they would have spoken out.

I first heard about it from a book I picked up a long time ago called:

"The Sayings of Muhammad" [saw] by Allama Sir Abdullah Al-Mamun Al-Suhrawardy which was first published in 1941.

The book says its a Hadith but it doesn't give any references for it so I'm not sure over its authenticity.

Nobody is more dangerous than he who imagines himself pure in heart; for his purity, by definition, is unassailable.

When you have nothing to say, say nothing.

Don't talk unless you can improve the silence.

You only live once; but if you do it right, once is enough.

We’re all in the gutter but some of us are looking at the stars.

Don't be so humble. You're not that great.

Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.

What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life, that there's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad.

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.

There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.

Even if you’re on the right path you’ll get run over if you just sit there.

All I have seen teaches me to trust the Creator for all I have not seen.

Intelligence is like a river; the deeper it is the less noise it makes.

My people have come to trust memory over history.  Memory, like fire, is radiant and immutable, while history serves only those who seek to control it, those who would douse the flame of memory in order to put out the dangerous fire of truth. Beware these men, for they are dangerous themselves and unwise. Their false history is written in the blood of those who might remember and of those who seek the truth.

I think there's a whole page of phat quotes out there somewhere..  *cough*

;) wasalaam.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllah,

I don't remember where this is from, but isn't it an awesome quote :)  I think it's from a quotes page.

Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.
This was actually in a conversation I had with someone.  MashaAllah, people you may assume are young and foolish often times are not.

Even if you’re on the right path you’ll get run over if you just sit there.
I think this quote is by Will Rogers.  I don't know who that is, I saw it written on someone's folder, I liked it.

Intelligence is like a river; the deeper it is the less noise it makes.
This is some good advice that was given to me.  Something I should keep in mind eh :)

Mostly they're from books, emails, surfing, talking to people.  Whenever I hear/read/see something cool I tend to write it down, think about it a lot.  I had this one file in which I collected all these awesome quotes, but unfortunately I lost it when my hard drive died.
