I am assuming that sisters will take their scarfs off, is it ok for Kafeer girls to come then? I mean for a muslim girl to be seen without a scarf by a kafir girl

Thanks

wasalaam,

Non-Muslim women are allowed entrance only if they are close friends with a participant and can be trusted with what they see.  It's a good opportunity for non-Muslim women to see that Muslims can have fun in a way that is good and that is allowed in Islam.

We want this event to be a time for the sisters to relax and enjoy themselves, and this includes in dress.  The entire hall will be covered, we'll make sure there is no visibility from outside the room.  There will be a "lockdown" of the hall to make certain that all doors and windows are covered properly before the program starts, and we will have security.

InshaAllah, there will be *no* brothers or men on the premises.

Any other questions, feel free to ask here or in email [se7en@jannah.org].

wasalaam.

Anyways, have fun sisters...

You or any other brother (gladiator!) come anywhere near that place and we'll have the albanyia mafia have a little nice talk wid ya!

Why do brothers persist in thinking this is just a "party"???? (ala the announcement this weekend!) Don't you think we have some kind of agenda or meaning behind this?  If this was just another one of our "parties" why would we have it at a PLACE and invite strange sisters!

Anyways rest assured, our security is BIG and DARK and would frighten men especially, right sisters :)

Only $1? ???  wow, that's cheap.  Why not charge $3 or $2, that's like nothing.  That's the price of a soda at a sporting event.  With the extra money you could buy something for the community, or give it to charity.  Or if you have nothing better to do the extra money could always go to the "Jannah's-vacation-fund Foundation" .  :)

wlm,

dude totally agreed! but this is the first time we're doing something like this.. and we weren't going to charge at all just to encourage ppl to come but need to cover expenses like the soda, cups, plates, tape etc

in the nyc area they had a sisters eid event just 2 weeks ago and they got 400 women at $10 a piece!!! we coulda made 4 grand!!!

ps i still guarantee you some ppl will try to get out of it at the door!!
pss i think we'll put a donation box or something at the door..that money could go to the social welfare for muslim women fund that one of the aunties is starting here

pscubed or it could go into the jannah's trip around the world fund

Ok I never said anything about the function itself, just inquired about the security that's all...

I know it's not a "party"...I never said it was one...i know the sisters have very deep, spiritual discussions reflecting on how Allah created the galaxies and what not at these functions...

The reason why I think people will get out of giving $1 at the door is because its only $1.  They're probably thinking, oh its only $1, they won't mind and probably won't bring their purse or wallet.  But if its more, then they will think, oh they are serious and pay.  I could be totally wrong here, I'm just guessing.

Abdul Basir really?  I know when I was discussing with someone about this Nebula I used the color red to describe it.  The sisters probably use technical terms like lavender, cyan, and fusia that are difficult for people such as myself to understand.

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

br abdul basir security will consist of about twenty sisters with baseball bats.

I'm joking, we won't use baseball bats.. unless we're provoked. :) Also, threats of being blacklisted from the sisters network.

br bhaloo we had some *long* discussions on the price of the tickets, I think we decided to keep them cheap so a lot of people would come, like jannah said.

And the reason jannah is so frustrated is because we've gotten a lot of grief about having events like this.  Especially from brothers, who a) have never been to a sisters-only event and therefore don't know what occurs at them and cannot accuse/insult/disapprove except based on rumor or assumption and b) have never considered why we are having such an event.

Jazak Allahu khayran, now if you could get all the other brothers in the community to do that we'd be all set :)

hahaha.. we sound so bitter :)  It doesn't matter what you do, there are always going to be people that criticize you.  It's all good though, if you do things for the right reasons, it's not something you need to worry about. (jannah!)

Sisters...that party or Galaa was good. But for the people who were not involved it was not that much fun. Believe me I am not being critical of you or anything, but I think that a successful way of making this work more is not having haram music in there and letting everyone get involved.
Over all it was great. But please next time warn us that there will be music not Anasheed.

wasalaam,

Hiyaam people were told there would be music at this event, and on the flyer itself it said "special dance finale", meaning there would be a dance to music.  If you did have questions on this you were welcome to speak to any of the organizers about it.  Someone posted here a question on non-Muslim women attending the event, you chould have done the same with your question on music, or emailed one of us.

Perhaps it's because I was the "dj" of the event that I dislike your 'haram' music comment, but I don't think it's right for you to say that.  If you feel that all music is haram, and therefore it was inappropriate for the show, that's fine.  However I spent a lot of time looking for Islamically appropriate lyrics.. it took me a long time to find music that was Islamically conducive but I did it, because I wanted us to be in an environment where we wouldn't have to worry about those things.

If you felt the music was haram or inappropriate or you were uncomfortable at all you should have a.) spoken with one of the organizers about it and/or b.) you were welcome to leave at anytime.

Also, we sent out a lot of emails asking for people to get involved, and the meetings we had were open to everyone.  It was sincerely not our intention to be exclusive or cliquish in the organization of this event.

InshaAllah next year or whenever another event like this is planned, if you do have strong feelings about such matters, or you want to get involved, get in touch with the organizers before the actual event takes place.

Jazak Allahu khayran

wasalaamu alaykum.

walaikum salaam wrt,

sister i don't know if you live in this community or not, but we started publicizing this event 3 months ago. right on the flier and in all the emails it says who to contact if you want to get involved. even the post on this message board dated from february invites people to participate and ask questions. in fact the flier lists over 8 girls who live in all the different cities in this area as a starting point of contact. we included many many different ethnicities as we wanted this to be a "woman's night" I personally invited many others as well, like some malaysian sisters, turkish sisters, arab sisters etc to take part. alhamdulillah we got a broad spectrum of muslim women.

we also didn't just say nasheed, we specifically said songs and nasheed and we also took the precaution of telling those people we know who don't listen to any music of any kind so that they would be aware about it. after the intro we started the music and it should have been right then that you left if you were offended. we would have gladly given your money back if you asked.

i do realize this community can sometimes seem cliqueish but this is one event where we specifically designed it to include anyone and everyone from the young to the old and that's something we can back up with alot of evidence.

btw sister can you tell us who you are so we can have some real correspondence?

I did not mean to offend you se7en or Jannah. My whole point was that music is haram, and it should not be played in a muslim gatherings. The dj part was the least offending since we did not hear it at all. I know that its my fault to not get involved in this event, but believe me I was not talking about me. Plus one of the reasons that I stayed was because I wanted to know how those famous 'parties' that you guys have are, and it gave me a pretty good idea.

walaikum salaam wrt,

i'm not offended at all.  i think we find it odd when people "anonymously" criticize an event after the fact. anyway if you believe music is haram alhamdulillah. next time follow through on your beliefs and don't attend an event which says on it "songs and nasheed" and leave immediately if they start playing something you think is haram.

btw our famous "parties" don't often have a 135 person crowd, dj, mc or fashion show in it !! :D

next time inshallah this event will go invite-only and others can organize something "non-criticizable" for everyone else

it's kinda unfair to have ppl who were asked to help criticize us. we had soooo many discussions about everything. we worked sooo hard to put this together for our fellow sisters in the community. we wanted the sisters, especially the young ones. the ones who are just about enering high schools to know that we can have a good time.
do you really want them to go to parties held by their non muslim friends?  i was discussing with another sister form my community and we noticed that the young sisters aren't as close as we use to be when we were younger. these girls just see each 2 or 3 days a week and that's it. most of them have no other contact with each other. they need more events like this to build bonds with one another. i feel so fortunate becasue i have such stonge bonds with many of the sisters in this community, bonds made by seeing each other in the weekend classes, and seeing them in events like this. these bonds inshalla will last forever and i make dua that in my old age i will still hold these sisters close to my heart as i do now. man, i love you girls, for the sake of Allah
if i said anything that offended someone, please forgive me.
