| I was coming back home from school in the school bus...well the school bus is filled with small kids and they are very chirpy and fun to play with ...the other day this cute little boy screams to me "why do you wear this ?"(ie hijab) i just smiled and told him i am a muslim and its in my religion.. but he argued.."my mom is a muslim and she doesnt wear it.but my maid does!" I think it is very ,very sad .This is the mentality of a 4-5 year old.He thinks hijab is for the maids. Two lessons to be learnt: 1)be proud to dress in an islamic manner 2)dont keep islam to ourself but teach everything we know to others ..esp those younger to us and set a good example for them. |

| as'salaamualikum :) there's so much emphasis put on "looks" that, when u cover up, ppl r like, "whoa..watch out for her.." our kids r being tainted with that mentality..:( anyone got any ideas on how to get that image out of kids heads..? do share :) ma'salaam ;-D |

| slm, [quote]anyone got any ideas on how to get that image out of kids heads..? do share :) [/quote]\ i dont, but mr. belt does ;-D heh.. j/k... i think if the child understands the importance of following allah's commands, then explain that its because allah has commanded it, no if's, and's or but's about it :) also, explain that wearin hijab is a commendable commitment, especially in this country... if a sister has the guts to put on a hijab and go into public, then shes got courage and faith, among other good things... and thats something to be proud of to know that theres sisters out there who will do it, and its not something to be feared. neway, my 2 pesos :) |
