Bikers for Allah

OK, stop laughing.

So here's the story.. Before I embreaced Islam. I was a "biker", not you know, a Hell's Angels, a guy who has a MC who rides with others who have MC's. At these gatherings there would be a lot of Christian MC clubs, Sons of Christ, Christian Bikers, etc. So now I am thinking... A Muslim MC club??? Hmmmmmm......

What does everyone think? What do you think the Shari'ah says about this? I think it would be a great way to show the world you can have an enjoyable life without being drunk and exploitive (and "explitive"). It would also be a great opportunity for Da'wah I think.

Let me know your thoughts....

Wassalam

You mean like a club where Muslims get together and go biking?  I don't see anything wrong with that, sounds like a good idea.  The only thing is, how are you going to find enough people to participate? ???

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

I just keep getting this picture of a bunch of guys with really long beards on their Harleys!!! ;-)

Question is though, are these beards trimmed or….;)

Br Daud I'm intrigued. What exactly would you do at these gatherings and for us non bikers
what's the attraction of the open road?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You guys are killin' me. You do have a good point tho, the brothers will fit right in with the long beards! In the MC clubs I have been in, there are lot of charity events, but unfortunately the charity events were particularly un-Islamic: pig roasts, "poker runs", rock bands, etc. etc. But there are other "events", such as organised scenic trips, there are other games that can be organised, and again, the proceeds all go to charity. I am probably not being entirely clear, but basically, it is a venue to gather, share something fun, and RIDE! You would have to be someone who enjoys motorcycling (aside from being Muslim). I can tell you riding with your "brothers" really does bring you closer together, especially on ling trips, overnighters, etc.

On another side, if we rode as a group, as a club, to events other MC clubs have put on, we can perform Da'wah amongst them.

Drumming up interest would of course be very difficult. I hope I don't sound like a bigot, Allah forbid, but I am surmising there are probably not a lot of Motorcycling Muslims (ehy, sounds like a good name for the club). But at this point it is just a very vague, nebulous idea floating around in my head...

as-Salaamu 'Alaykum,
Here's something to consider.  How can you gain ajr (reward) AND ride a motorcylce at the same time?  Maaan, the answer has got to be the Muslim-biker gang :).  But think about it, you are in a jama'aa of sorts with Muslims AND you're going to make Da'wah, AND you get to ride your bike around.
I am soo in.  So here's the announcement:  if there are any Muslim bikers or Muslim biker wanna bes in North Texas...get in touch with me.  'Cause I'm liking this idea :)
Though my future wife is probably not ;).

Take care,

Oh man, you guys are making me laugh so hard I have tears rolling down my face.

Princess, I don't see why not, but these are the kinds of things I would want opinions on. I mean, as long as you were "appropriately dressed" I don't see the problem. The danger with this type of thing tho, is that muslimahs are deserving of a certain type of respectful interaction with the brothers, and that cannot be guaranteed if the club was to ride to an event hosted by a non-Muslim club (bikers are a rule get pretty drunk and stupid). Of course this wouldn't be a problem with events within our own club, or if we were particularly choosy about the outside events attended.

Zubaid, my thoughts exactly. But I do think interest is going to be slow in coming. I am thinking of setting up a website and blasting the search engines just to see what sort of national interest we would have. If we had enough interest nationally and could set up local chapters, just think how much fun an annual gathering of all the chapters could be!  And just imagine what salat would be like!!!!! ALLAHU AKHBAR!!!! : -)

Don't encourage him.

Why is it that one can only have fun if they are travelling at speeds of 120mph?! (And no, I didn't pull that number out of the air, ask Mr. Zubaid "Hell's Angel" Kazmi where it came from.)

My brother has been bungee jumping and sky coasting, he would like to jump out of a plane, and drive his car on the Autobon.
My fiance would like to jump out of a plane, join a bikers gang and he insists that the usage of brakes on a car is for wusses.

My father drives 55 mph on the freeway.

I love my father :)

Assalaamu alaikum,

Sounds like a good idea br. Daud. A motorbike is probably the only thing I can (am allowed to) drive. Any Harleys available on loan? :)

Go ahead and set up a website and do some publicity. You will have to be patient though as muslims are scattered all over the place and bikers would be hard to find.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah,

Hey, I remember an article in Islamic Horizons about a Muslim convert who was a biker... and he faced all this discrimination both from the "mc" community and the muslim community... and he mentioned how it is such an amazing daawah opportunity..

was that you?!  woah.. if not, I have to find that article, you two would get along great :)

Salamu Aliakom,

Well I don't know how to ride a motorbike and I don't have one so that kinda leaves me out eh? Then again I'm not into motorbikes as such.

Any aspiring jet fighter pilots here? I wish i could fly but im too tall :(

Yeah I can see myself flying an F-22 right over Israel ;)

Assalam-u-Alaikum,

I was into these jets n stuff at one point in my life.  F-22 and the Eurofighter and all.  The closest one could probably get to the real thing would be on a computer game.  Don't laugh.

Did you know that EF2000 was used by NATO to train their pilots? (It is quite old now however in computer time).  Falcon 4.0 and FA-18 Super Hornet are supposed to be the best on the market.  I suggest the former.

I go MAYBE 10 miles over the speed limit. My days of riding like an idiot are over (I'm 41 remember). The bike I have is classified as a cruiser, and that is exactly what I do, I cruise--I sit back kick my feet up on the highway bars, and enjoy the scenery.  But unfortunately men are boys until they hit 40, so this is a golden opportunity for you to work on your sabr (heeheehee!).

Forget Harleys! I ride a "metric cruiser" and everyone THINKS it's a Harley. And the best part about my bike is it's shaft driven not chain, so I don't have to worry about my thobe getting caught in the chain! No helmet law here in CT, just imagine how cool I am going to look with my headdress blowing in the wind!!!

I'm stunned! Of all the people to ask, you? Sheesh, you're the last one I'd have figured not to get it. You figured out my coolest riddles (to my dismay) in double quick time, some that perplexed me for ages! And now this. You've changed...

Lol.

Sister Nazia "I can't wait till we're married and I can sit behind him on that bike" and Brother Zubaid "Hold on tight!!!" methinks.

Heh well yeah I used to play those games too. I loved the dog fighting games. There's nothing like blowin up someone virtually out of the sky hahaa.

So bro Daud, how loud is your motorbike? Is it the kind that is ear deafining when you start it up? And whats the difference between a chain driven and a shaft motorbike?

Well, my bike is not break all the windows for a 10 mile radius loud, it's more like, annoy everyone in my neighborhood loud. Hey, you gotta get everyone's attention. That should work nicely with me being a Muslim now... : -)

Chain driven is like how a bicycle transfer power, i.e., you pedal and the chain transfers the torque to the rear wheel. Shaft drive is how a car works, i.e., the drive shaft transfers torque from the engine to the wheels.

Am I still on the right board???  ;-)

Assalam-u-Alaikum,

Brother Arshad, most flight sims still cater for the hardcore realism side (i.e.slow), but many (including Falcon 4.0 i think) have an option to get straight into the action.

Nonetheless, if you're like me you'll go for the SPACE sims like Freespace 2 and Starlancer which have nothing but wrist-twisting and thumb-bashing madness... with the occasional story-line! LOL

Saleema, one of the things I love about this board is that you all have wonderful senses of humour. Many of the Islamic web sites I started visiting when I first became Muslim were VERY SERIOUS!!! Mostly they were full of arguments about why the Shi'a's are wrong, or why the Sufi's are wrong, or why the... well you get the ideas. I love the openmindedness that most of you encourage here, I feel comfortable posting anything here and knowing I will received a compassion and knowledgeable response.

Have a good weekend, all.

This all reminds me when I went to India when I was 16.  I saw quite a few "maulvi saabs" (you know, kinda old men with long beards, thobes, and kufis) zooming around on bikes.  I even saw a sister in a jilbab and niqab once.
For America, I think the appropriate look would be thobe and kufi with a leather biker jacket and helmet on top :)
And you know, wind is probably good for the beard, gives it lots of volume and body, although I would recommend a conditioner to retain moisture ;)

I was browsing Islamic Horizon in the library and came across the article se7en is referring to. It is in the sept/oct 2000 issue titled "Da'wah on Wheels" by Anisa David, pp. 52.

So br. Daud, you can link up with this brother. He seems to have started a bike club. You can contact him at:

I really do think it would be cool looking. You don't have to wear a helmet here, so you KNOW I am going to be tearing down the highway with my ghutrah flowing behind me (of course I'll have to staple it to my head I guess)....

I actually thought the motorcycle was a more acceptable mode of transportation in other countries?
