slm From: Islamic Horizons Vol. 30 No. 1 Jan/Feb issue Nuray Canan Bezirgan was sentenced to 6 months in jail for attempting to appear in Hijab in the final examination at Istanbul University's health services school. Charged, under the Turkish criminal code, for "preventing education and training," Bezirgan explained, "I wear my head-scarf not to prevent education and training but because it is an order of Allah stated in the Quran." After her conviction, Bezirgan, who came to the trial with her 10-month baby, said that her arm was broken when the police used excessive force while dragging her out of the examination hall. AA Why is everyone angry abot two statues being broken, but no-one angry about a human being's arm being broken ? |
