assalamu alaikum,
... donuts are ok but i would love to have a tiramisu just one more time
I make tiramisu without the rum (or whatever alcohol is usually used) and it is very delectable. Last time I made it for a dinner party that my parents were hosting, and the guests preferred it over the store-bought. chocoloate-layer strawberry cake! So just omit the alcohol from the recipe. Problem solved :) I have no idea what Sheridans are, so can't help here. As for fluffy dice, they are really decorative ones ...they are those huge ugly things that some people hang around their car's rear view mirror. And the pointless discussion continues... NMR , sigh it's driving me over the edge. |

Assalamu alaikum, For MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), you got the idea Khalid, except that they don't use x-rays. Instead, they turn on a magnetic field to surround the person being examined. The images generated give info about soft tissues like brain, blood vessels. Okay, back to the pointless discussion, let's pick it up people! chocolates |

(thapper is slap) and u end up being tricked and say yeah...and then S L A P! :P (ofcourse not a real slap...) i forget the word.."lenah" or something for want? like....candy lenah? u go yeah!! sprite lenah? yeah..popper lenah? yeah..thapper lenah? yeah! tricked and ur SLAPPED...or if ur smart n quick u'd go no...they'd ask thapper nai lenah? :P n then trick u n ask one by one u don't want candy? etc candy nai lenah? nu go no u do want it..n get u back into saying yeah u want all those things n they catch u unaware n u answer yeah u want that slap! :P |

Assalam ualykum, Talking about violent games and childhood memories, I got a few violent childhood memories. :D My mom sent me to the local masjid to memorize the Qur'an. The hafiz Sahib was very abusive and I was too scared to tell my mom for some reason, even though my family had told the imam that he was not allowed to hit me for any reason. But one day, he beat me really bad, I had bruises on my back, all black and blue. I could not stop crying. So the hafiz sahib sends me home, he never expected for me to tell. And I probably wouldn't have, except I was in a lot of pain and was emotionally just torn up by having to indure such humiliation that I could not stop crying. Anyway, I arrived home sobbing. I used to walk, the masjid wasn't very far from my home. Anyway, so I arrived home sobbing and my grandma, (may Allah bless her with Janat ulfaurdos), was the first person I saw. I ran into her arms and told her what happened while she held me and comforted me. She was ssssoooooooo angry. She told my grandpa. Then my mom came and the story was told all over again to her. My mom was ssssssssoooooo angry. Then my grandpa puts on his turban, gets his cane and walks to the masjid. (my uncles weren't home at that time, when they found out later that night, they paid a visit to the hafiz. :) ) Right outside the masjid he sees a big crowd and hears a lot of yelling and cursing. People were beating the Hafiz Sahib. :) He had gone in another fit of rage and had broken a little girl's index finger and her uncles and dad were beating him up. So my grandfather didn't see the need to beat the Hafiz Sahib with his cane, :) , but warned him that he had better not ever lay a finger on me. I stoped going to him after that inccident and never went to a hafiz ever, ever again. I did know how to read the Qur'an but my mom wanted me to become a hafiza I guess. Never did become one though, (hafiza I mean). Anyway, all those poor little kids. We were all pre-K -- 5th graders. I was in 3rd or 4th grade, can't remember now exactly. Or are only happy childhood memories allowed in this forum? I got those too. :) wassalam |

[slm] Teachers beating children in schools to discipline them, any kind of school, is very common in Pakistan. Especially in the madrasas where the do hifz. I remember being extremely horrified by such beatings in primary (err...elementary) school. Our teachers would beat us with a ruler or a cain, in front of the whole class. And what's incredible is that the more *strict* a school's principals/teachers are, the more "disciplined" it is viewed as, and thus the more reverence it gets from the public! It does work to a certain degree though. Such schools often produce the best students, with highest scholastic achievements in the nation! Just look at me ;) j/k. Wassalam. |

Assalamu alaikum,
Teachers beating children in schools to discipline them, any kind of school, is very common in Pakistan. Especially in the madrasas where the do hifz. And what's incredible is that the more *strict* a school's principals/teachers are, the more "disciplined" it is viewed as, and thus the more reverence it gets from the public!
And I thought these things only happened here in Nigeria (my mother's told us stories about how she actually ran away from an 'Islamic' school when she witness one of the students being lashed with a whip until he was bleeding). I have never and still do not support such harsh punishments inflicted on muslim kids (not even teenagers yet) for the sake of 'impacting religious knowledge' upon them (don't think I've come across any such examples in the Qur'an or hadith). I remember passing a school for muslim children once and watched one student being lashed with a very long whip (whips made from animal hide are called 'koboko's here and people actually make a living producing them for 'Islamiyya's - Islamic schools - , in my time, though I attended private lessons at a neighbour's, the most notorious koboko was the 'two-mouthed' one) whereas just nearby in another non-Islamic based school, kids were playing around having fun and learning. I asked a friend once why muslim schools had to hand out such harsh punishments and he told me it 'cos of a believe that that way Shaitan's influence over the kids will be reduced. But check this, many of the people ruining this country graduated from such schools whereas the bright ones from the other kinds of schools with something to offer society get sucked up into secularism or leave the country for greener pastures. Any way, things are changing, thank Allah... Okay, don't let's get too upset fried fish :) |

When I was in first grade, I was standing in line in the hallway waiting to go home and I thought it would be funny to make faces at my friend in front of me, and so I did. And then my teacher came up behind me paddled me! I was very sad. :( Then, when I was in 12th grade, I was office aide for the Vice principal at my high school. Anyways, everyday I'd have to go fetch students from their classes so that Mr. Weaver could *beat* them with a paddling board! From what I heard, he didn't hurt them. He would take them into a back room, they would lean up against a table..bend over, and he would smack them a good one on their bottoms!hahaha.. maaan I can't believe I live in such a WEIRDO state!! Anyways, that was about three years ago, but it might have been outlawed by now..not too sure. Take Care, Wassalam, Nazia |

Are you serious? Teachers here are scared to physically break up fights for fear of getting charged with assault.. I'm more worried about the students in my school than the teachers. Last week, a student was arrested for having a loaded gun in his locker with 18 rounds of ammunition. And the next day there was a bomb scare. Ahh, the joy of a public high school education :P |

um...the topic of a pointless discussion isn't one of writing merely a random word or so...it encompasses everything...random posts of whatever happened...phrases stuck in your mind or stuff you remember etc...stuff that wouldn't fit in the other folders...so...umm....it just seems funny seeing a few posters just with a random word..it's def not limited to that..so be alot more open!!! like for ex: "choclate chunk..where's the funk?" or "zippidee doodah, zippidie daaay, my oh my what a beautiful day!!!" or "today was such an awesome day subhan'allah..gorgeous weather and got to go up north to visit the gramps" etc... or another fave, commericial ads etc etc.. you know? or are you just comfortable with single food bytes? :P i'll go start up a food folder for you hungry ppl...or for those who are hallucinating their fave munchings.. :P "why can't we all shop together?" -mercata.com :) uh oh.... :( i think they went bankrupt or outta biz? :( pllllllllllllllllllllzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!! everyone make dua that the tech sector n the stock market gets back on track??? and soar uppp??? enough of this stock loses nonsense!!! |
