| as'salaamualikum :) i actually heard the "sons of the cresent" in austin over this past weekend..it was ahh, abdul malik ahmed, and this other guy, (i forgot his name) and they were really good..i'd heard them @ isna..and it didn't sound good..but hearing them @ UT (university of texas) i enjoyed em loads :) ma'salaam ;-D |

| as-Salaamu 'Alaykum, Actually, MYNA raps is a series of cassettes/CDs that the Muslim Youth of North America (a national umbrella youth group organization) have been releasing since the early 90's (I think 1993 or 1992, can't remember). They are not only raps, but songs in English and Arabic, poems, and even a skit (but that was a disaster to say the least :) ). The brothers that Princess heard in Austin were Abdul-Malik Ahmed and Naeem Muhammad, they have been strong contributors to the MYNA raps series since probably 1995 or so. The group that they are a part of is called 'Sons of the Crescent', I believe there are four members of the group. Naeem, Abdul-Malik, Joshua and Yaseen. 'Sons of the Cresent' is a group that has existed since around 1990 I believe. Naeem and Abdul-Malik are recent additions to the group, al-Hamdulillah. That's the history of MYNA raps as far as I can recollect. The tapes, by the way, have become an international thing as well. There are brothers and sisters that go over seas and they meet people who ask them about MYNA raps. From refugees in Chechnia, to Malaysia, to Pakistan, to Egypt to Europe to China to I don't know where. Not all the tapes have been titled as MYNA raps, but that's what the series has been dubbed. | i remember that zub zub zubaid... :) interesting.. isn't this tape officially banned *ahem* ?? btw why don't you guys go for CD this year and also put a BEST of MYNA collection together? you'd make big bucks if you market it at isna!! but seriously, may Allah reward you guys.. every year i make my kids memorize Give me Ya Allah.. they absolutely love it.. I hear them singing it all the time. i hope one day when they get older the song will come to them and the meaning will actually sink in! |
