Prayers for suffering  muslims?

assalamu alaikum,

Like others I'm really disturbed by the suffering of muslims around the world, notably in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Chechnya, Africa and Kashmir. I saw a recent report about Afghanistan how children were starving in the cold and this has really touched me. I constantly think of it and sometimes I get depressed because here I am sitting at home with food and complain about everyday matters, while others are starving and have no clothes. Its hard to enjoy myself because I have a very guilty conscience and feel bad that why should I be happy for a moment when our brothers/sisters are suffering. I don't think its right that we should be comfortable and others are in hardship :(

What can we do to help? Along with donation to islamic charities and prayers is there anything else we can do that will make a difference?

Apart from our own worded prayers, are there any special dua/supplications that have been prescribed for which we can make for people suffering?

wassalam

yeah ofcourse..qunut nazilah..if you listen closely to the imam or shaykh like for witr prayer during ramadhan or during hard times for the muslims like in chechnya, or during the gulf war etc etc you'd hear them recite it..you're supposed to recite it when find yourselves 'oppressed and surrounded by the enemies, whenever subjected to hardships, tyrannies and persecutions n to break the enemy's power and bring about their destruction.'
