Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

There are gaps so you can see through but to take a picture through one of those small gaps?

Or did they actually enter the Holy Mausoleum?

Either way I'm not sure its the sort of thing that should be widely distributed real or not.

Huh, the only way a picture could be taken would be to go inside. Dignitaries have been rarely allowed in, or so I've heard, so it may be possible there is a picture, but only some authorized picture, and I doubt that any picture that exists would be allowed to be seen by just anyone...

As for an unauthorized pic, I don't think someone can take a picture through one of those small gaps...first of all, you can't really get near enough to shoot without being whisked away...it's dark in there, so any pic (if taken) would be bad quality (it's not like you can use your flash and have time to set the aperture and stuff)...security is tight..

I remember a few years ago I happened just to be walking a bit close to it, and could see inside...but for some reason I can't remember what I saw!...all i can remember is just the light from the hallway shining through the gate onto the grave...and I also remember how there is this vacant space before moving to the grave of Abu Bakr...which is believed to be reserved for Prophet Isa (AS)...

Assalaamu alaikum,

Hmm, I think it is best *not* to publicize the picture. It may not be real. Even if it is real I don't think it will be appropriate. The picture has no Islamic significance, and there are some weird people out there who would make it into a chain letter with a made up story!

Wasalaam.

PS: you can mail it to me though :)

I think I've seen that picture before.  It's best not to distribute it.  There's many question marks about that picture.  For example, the grave is raised above the ground, which is clearly AGAINST the teaching of Rasulullah [saw].  There were other things also, which I cannot remember anymore.

Agreed I don't plan to post it publically anywhere it just shocked me to see it. The grave is raised but it could be just a fake covering thing and the body still under the ground.. kind of like in the taj.. nice little tombs but the bodies are in the basement!!

err that sounds very steven kingish ala se7en's quote

hmm...

According to my understanding, and I could be wrong, when the Prophet [saw] talked about not raising the graves, he wasn't just talking about the bodies.  He was talking about the tombs!

Wasn't he?

I thought bodies are ALWAYS put underground!

The mortal remains of the Prophet [saw] are at the level of the two brass discs on the gate, so part of it must be raised, given that those discs are above the ground. Of course the appropriateness of that is another story.

The history of the grave in relation to the masjid is interesting. Umar RA first extended the masjid in both Rawdah and behind the qabr, so the qabr was on the edge of the masjid. Then Uthman RA enlarged the Masjid so that people could make salah in front of the qabr. It is said that none of the Sahaba or Tab'ieen ever questioned that the Masjid was the site of the qabr, probably since being so strong in Iman their intentions were never such. Nevertheless, it is said the Aisha RA blocked access to the grave site to prevent prayers there and changed her room to make it impossible to pray towards the qiblah while facing the grave.

Until this time the qabr was on the edge of the Masjid. In the time of Umar ibn Abdul Aziz and his brother in-law Al-Walid, the Masjid was enlarged again and the qabr was now really inside it. This act has been defended on the basis that both were Tab'ieen and thus among the "best of my (the Prophet 's [saw]) community" as reported in ahadith.

It would be interesting to find out the history of the exact grave site, i.e the inside. It must be out there somewhere.
