Introducing Abu Khaled...

Assalam alaikum wa rahmatullah.

So, finally, here it is. What all of some of you have been waiting for, demanding, campaigning for, pressuring me into. Read it and weep!

My name is Abu Khaled. It is good having a name. It helps people identify you. Like, if I was in a room amongst lots of people and you called out, "Abu Khaled!" I might turn around (then again I might not). That way you’d know it was me.

But what if other Brothers turned around too? That’d be kinda confusing huh? And what if one of them was a Sister? That’d be just plain wrong. Especially cos’ you’re not supposed to shout out when people are praying. In a masjid too! Tut tut...

I am a Muslim.

I’m over 10 years old (honest).

I once didn’t.

I’m not taller than a Olympic pole vault pole.

Sometimes I get tired.

If I were married I wouldn’t be single. Or the other way around.

I don’t drive a truck, and I have never touched my beating heart.

I like some                               things.

But there            are             other things       I don’t.

I like to breathe.

Not breathing is something I don’t like.

I also like not bumping into things. Along with not liking bumping into things too.

But that’s just me.

When I look up I see things which are above me. No, really.

If you ever need a friend...

                 ...befriend someone.

I have a good sense of humour. You can tell, I know this.

I’m pretty sure I’m not someone else.

I think if you were me, you’d know things about me that I wouldn’t want you to know. And that scares me.

Wisdom has two syllables, whereas syllables has three. Go figure.

Once I had *such* fun. And not only once only. Once.

Here’s a secret I’ll share with you, just cos’ you’re my Brothers’n’Sisters’n’all (I’m kinda sentimental that way). Did you know that if you spell backwards backwards then you actually have and haven’t. Spelt it backwards that is.

Spooky huh?

Yeah, I know.

I’m afraid of wasting time. I always ask myself, "What if time suddenly turned on you as you were about to waste it, snatch the gun out of your hand, and waste you instead?!"

Not a pleasant thought.

These are some things I thought I’d share with you all, about myself. I’ve already shared them with me.

Now, please fill in my Quest-Ionnaire.

Abu Khaled

P.S. You guys should think yourself lucky, cos’ I put myself on the line for you here. I broke a rule of the Bebzi Stand to do this. It says, and I quote "introductions by new Madina residents". And I’m hardly one of them now am I?

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa baraktuhu.

My fellow Brothers and Sisters,

Not that I want to go against the alliance or anything :), but, you have to give the Brother some credit. He put a lot of thought into his intro...lol.

If our Dear Brother Abu Khaled wants to keep this "air of mystery" about him, I think it's cool!

After all, if we scare him away, how would we ever reap the benefits of his knowledge that he brings to the board? :)

Hey, I got your back, Brother! (lol)

Just my two cents worth!

Assalamu alaikum,

I think he's trying another riddle on us.

Abu-Khaled, you call that an introduction?? An introduction to lameness maybe!!

No deal with you until you comply with all of our 2 [got that, T W O ] demands.  We'll see who holds out till the end ;)

I am new on this board and I was interested to know more about the eloquent AbuKhaled as well. So I rushed to read the introduction with anticipation. But subhanallah maybe this brother (or sister?? :)j/k) with such knowledge and a sense of humor also is very shy and doesn't want to broadcast his life history to the entire world wide web. Perhaps AbuKhaled thrives in the anonymity of this board, perhaps it allows him to fully and frankly express himself and come out of his shell. Perhaps he wants to contribute to this board and provide benefit and knowledge to others without any fear of doing it for any other reason but for the sake of Allah.

Yaa AbuKhaled your mysteriousness and evasiveness can be somewhat annoying :) but your modesty and shyness is commendable. But understand the questionaire is very personal and being our brother and given standard group dynamics concerning interactions and reciprocity everyone just wanted to know more about their brother.

Forgive my poor psychoanalysis, but if you weren't so darned mysterious, we wouldn't be wasting time talking about all this :)...

[slm] all :)

Turning up the heat!

Wa-alaikum assalam wa rahmatullah to you each.  :D

Are we having fun yet? Lol!

<Was this good enough?>

Oh, come on, admit it, you were secretly enamoured by my intro. One man’s crusade against the mighty A-LIE-ance? David and Goliath and all that? That begrudging admiration that descends over two Generals as they meet on the field before battle commences… *smug grin*

<You know I spent an hour filling that out!>

Awww…bro Asim, my apologies. But hey, spare a thought for me too you know. It wasn’t easy holding that gun to your head.

Lol!

<Not to mention the hours I spend reading your posts>

Again, I’m sorry for forcing you to do this. *rofl*

Gimme a break! Do you think it takes less time reading them than writing them?! Lol!

I love you bro. You ma blood (thas from da FunkMasta! 8-) ).

<but, you have to give the Brother some credit. He put a lot of thought into his intro...>

Yeah! Don’t be so stingy with the credit!

<An introduction to lameness maybe!!>

Must be the standards of that detective work in the Analytical Skills Dept. rubbing off on me. Yikes! Hehe…

Hey, isn’t that run by you Sister Mona?

Oops! :D

<No deal with you until you comply with all of our 2 [got that, T W O ] demands. We'll see who holds out till the end>

And so it was with John Rambo. Picture that scene as he walked along the bridge and the Sheriff drives up. He just wanted to be left alone, seeking a peaceful life. But they wouldn’t let him alone. They kept pushing and pushing.

Fast forward to that end scene in the shop. He’s brought havoc to the whole town. What does he tell his ex-leader? That he didn’t want all of this. But they wouldn’t leave him alone.

They wanted a war, so he gave ‘em one! They didn’t realise who they were dealing with. *rofl*

8-)

Lol! :-P

<but if you weren't so darned mysterious, we wouldn't be wasting time talking about all this ...>

Okay, so lemme recap the reasoning here: Abu Khaled’s supposed mysteriousness is the cause of you wasting your time. Kinda like cause and effect right? One *necessarily* leads to the other.

Right, got it, thanks.

Abu Khaled

PS: I know that’s not what you meant Brother AbdulBasir, and I think I know that you know that I know (!). I just like messin’ with you guys. ;)

Its obvious he's from across the pond for a number of reasons.  Us Americans aren't capable of speaking like this.  Secondly, Abu Khaled's attempt at trying to sound "funky" are really bad.  Se7en needs to give a class on slang again.  Also another reason is that I ecall him mentioning coming to the states and wanted some information on speakers and travel information.

Brother Khalid my eyes were playing tricks on me.  When I saw the last line of your post I thought it said Bint instead of Brit.  This is how I read your post.

Maybe cuz he knows that some ppl out there will respond and aren't shy about it. It's like in any classroom; some ppl will always raise their hands and volunteer information in a snap, others won't, and they have their reasons. The way I see it is threefold :
[1]Br Abu Khaled may seriously not want to answer his own questions. Therefore if we offer him some sort of carrot, we may get something out of him which is better than nothing.

[2]Alternatively, he’s messing with us and why should we give him the satisfaction of drawing out this standoff ;-)

[3]When’s all said and done, as Muslims we should all unite in the end. Besides isn’t the one who greets his brother first after a period of estrangement the better? Might as well beat him to some reward ;)
Of course I’m a mere soldier in the Alliance. I leave the high level strategy plans to our big wig generals ;-)

Answering the critics
AbuKhaled
03/23/01 at 17:42:18
Beloved Brothers & Sisters,

Assalam alaikum wa rahmatullah.

Joking aside, there is a fine line between jocular inquisitiveness and being nosey, and I’m not pointing any fingers, so nobody take it personally! I love each and everyone of you for the sake of Allah (awj). I benefit by you, learn from you, laugh because of you, even sometimes feel a little heartbroken as a result of you (i.e. some of the problems raised here), and thus remain indebted to you. I cannot help but feel that because of you – bit’ithnillah ta’ala - I am more than I would be were it not for you, may Allah ta’ala honour each of you.

I don’t object to reciprocity, but I do object to allegations of being secretive, when Allah ta’ala has granted me the right to privacy. I never ask(ed) personal questions of no benefit, and the Quest-Ionnaire – as I mentioned – was to serve a wider purpose, not to just know people and pry. None of the questions, you will have noticed, were asking anyone to reveal personal details about themselves in the same vein as an introduction, or were of no benefit in knowing. Nor did I expect replies, for I did not have that right. Whoever answers, and whoever doesn’t, has exercised their own prerogative. Them doing so does not remove me the right to likewise exercise mine. I don’t consider that unfair, for it could only be so in the presence of an unwarranted expectation.

Ask your questions, but don’t demand your answers.

That said, it does not mean I am not going to answer my Quest-Ionnaire. Nor does it mean I am...

We’ll see. I know you guys thrive off my ambivalence, lol! ;)

I want to relate to you something, but I want  it to be kept in context. Despite the generality of it’s import, it doesn’t apply to those who are genuinely busy with necessary matters. So please bear that in mind.

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Raheem.

Shaykh Hamza related the following, which I transcribed virtually verbatim, and edited only ever so slightly, which I will indicate for the sake of honest reproduction of his words. My own additions will be in square brackets with my initials:

"People often say ‘I don’t have any time, I don’t have any time.’ [...] Your life is nothing other than time. That’s the *one* thing you *do* have, is time. People who say ‘I don’t have any time are fooling themselves. It’s a delusional state. It’s that you *don’t have baraka in your time*. [AK: emphasis mine]

Our Prophet (saw) left what didn’t concern him. And the benefit of leaving what doesn’t concern you, is baraka in your time.

There is no baraka in your time. Why? Because you are engaged in what doesn’t concern you. Our Prophet (saw) [AK: is reported to have] said, “Min husni Islam al mar’i tarkuhumala ya’ni” [AK: aw qama qal] [AK: meaning:] “From the excellent Islam of a man is to leave that which doesn’t concern him.” [AK: on the authority of Imam Malik (ra)]

One time a man asked Imam ash-Shafi’i, ‘How old are you?’ He replied, ‘Ya’neek?’ [AK: translation:] ‘Does that concern you?’ The man said, ‘Subhan’Allah, what did I say?!’ Imam ash-Shafi’i, said ‘Lakad sa’altu ustaadi Malikan, ‘Kam umra?’’ [AK: translation:] ‘I asked my teacher Malik, ‘How old are you?’ And he said, ‘Ya’neek [AK: translation:] ‘What does it concern you?’

He was teaching Imam ash-Shafi’i, ‘don’t ask about things of no concern to you. What importance is it if you know how old I am or how young I am? It doesn’t matter. Ask things of importance *to you*’

Part of learning how to benefit from time, from speech [AK: is knowing the virtue of leaving that which doesn’t concern one, or is of no benefit to one knowing].”

Subhan’Allah. :)
