My favorite nasheeds are from

Yusuf Islam, Dawud Wharnsbury, Diwani, Raihan.

That's it, I didn't leave out any groups in case someone is wondering.

Little Birdie -- which is on Colors of Islam

Not sure of the Title, but the chorus is "Wallah Ma'nsina" which is By Allah, we will not forget, and it is a father speaking to his daughter about how they will always remember Palestine, b/c their blood is in the land, and he pleads to Allah subhannahu wa ta'ala, and I think Muhammad abu Ratib sang it at the Fifth Mahrjan Nasheed  in Amman

"Lift your head, Islam," which is Muhammad 'Ala and Abu Ratib, and again, it is a plea for us to raise our heads, to listen to the call of the Shuhadat, and to bring Islam to Falasteen.

Actually, I would say the entire cassette part I of the 5th Marjan from Jordan, it is that good. Subhan'Allah.

'Haya ala Iman,' which is from a children's tape of the same name, an Arabic nasheed for children.  It's so cute.  The whole tape is cute.  There is one song on there where the children sing about how they love their Mommy b/c she is so patient with them.  :) Insha'Allah, I am teahing this one to the kids at school, so they can sing it at the graduation ceremony this year.

Tala'al al Badru Alayna -- Yusuf Islam's version

The song by Raihan from the album "Sykur" which is about all of the Prophets (aleyhim salatu wa salaam)-- my copy of the tape doesn't have the songs listed on the back jacket

The song "Thank you Allah" by Raihan

Any songs sung by the group Najmoon, who sang at the Masjid at Taqwa fundraiser at Madison Sq. Garden in January 99 and also at the Marjan al Quds from Islamic Association for Palestine in November of this past year.  Subhan'Allah, they are so good.

its titled Yaa aabid al-Haramayn
which means "O worshipper of the 2 holy mosques" (i.e. 2 harams, makka & medina)

it was some poetry sent by Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak to Fudayl ibn iyad who was known for his piety and hence the title.  Its meanings are deep and profound
I will put up a translation insha Allah in a couple of days as I a tad busy at the moment.

Subhan Allah!  That's beautiful.

You're right Muhannad.  It's no contest, no contest at all!  Especially if you know what the nasheed is saying, and the background behind the words.

Abdullah ibn Mubarak (rahimahullah) had a practice of going to Jihaad every other year and making Hajj every other year.  Once when he was away for Jihaad, he received a letter from his friend, Fuzayl ibn Ayyaz, who was making i'tikaaf in the Haram ash-Shareef.  Fuzayl ibn Ayyaz had said in the letter that they were missing him in the i'tikaaf.  Upon this, Abdullah Ibn Mubarak replied with the following verse:

Oh worshipper in the Two Sanctuaries, if you could only behold us,
You would see that you, in your devotions, are only playing.
If you are one whose cheek is tinged with his tears,
Then our chests are dyed with our blood.

[This is the translation of the chorus, and the translation of what Abdullah Ibn Mubarak wrote]

May Allah have Mercy on his soul!

Wassalamu alaikum.
P.S. Ibn Mubarak died in 181 A.H.

Bro. Arsalan where and how did you find that out.  I really think that we should get/find this translated, Insha-Allah.

I also like Ya Shaheed also from Islamway.com.  Sr, Jannah posted a link to it some time ago under the thread "found".  i think in the media center?

Salaam all,

How many of these Nasheeds have ANY musical instruments, from this I mean the daff or drums or the violin and piano. According to some scholars even drums used as Nasheeds are harram.

Thats why I ask the question which of these Nasheeds don't have any musical instruments.

Hope to hear from you folks,

Your friend and Bro in Islam

Bhaloo, unfortunately not :(

*However*, if this is any incentive for you, some of these Urdu nasheeds are there on Huma's "cool" page.  She gave a lot of compliments (ex. "awesome" ) to some of them.  So if she, given her own Urdu skills (or lack thereof :)) can appreciate them, I'm sure you can too :)

Try them out!

P.S. If you guys ever want anything translated, let me know and I'll do it for you insha Allah.

SA, some of the songs of soldiers of Allah are just awesome.  The only thing that concerns me is their demeanor.  They look more like a Muslim gang than anything else.  Their lyrics, their outlook, everything.  Too violent sometimes.

Myna raps.  Listen to "Intentions Alright" and then tell me if you still don't like em :)

Assalaamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

I modified my last msg only because I didn't want to offend anyone associated with the afformentioned ensembles (I know relatives of 1 of the performers, wouldn't want them to read that).
In any case, I was put into a situation once where one of my good friends put on a tape on a long car ride and made me listen to the song you mentioned, Arsalan...after she asked me what I thought, all I could say was, "uhh...what? so...how 'bout that ISNA conference...are u going this yr?"  Works every time.
Sorry, bro, I tried!  Couldn't get into it, although much respect to all those who put forth the message of Islam.  Even 1 generation ago, there's no way you'd hear American nasheeds...does anyone know of any back in the day?  I'd be interested in knowing.
And regarding the other ensemble, yes, I agree they're a bit on the edge, I've only heard a few songs, but they have a vibe about them that makes me think, "man, these guys would do better using all that energy out there on the frontlines!"  The positive thing abt them is their sense of urgency...
In all honesty, I'm not really into either (but if I had to choose...), hence, they're not on my top 11 list...but I love the ppl behind the "ensembles" anyways!  May Allah reward them and help us represent in the best ways, aameen.

The videos have been off the site for a long time now but that video, SubhanALLAH...it also has some of the best nasheeds i have ever heard. Anyone have them or know where to find em online? SA, it's alright :)  Sometimes different lyrics appeal to different people.  It's normal.

I have to say though that when I bought "The Next Level", I was disappointed to hear "Intentions Alright."  It was the 2nd time I was listening to the song.  The first time was at the ISNA convention.  I heard it live in the youth hall from Abdul Malik and Br. Naeem.  Man, it was a totally different experience.

I'm a singer.  I know how it feels when you sing in front of a crowd who love your singing.  It's a big, big test of your ego.  It gives a million roads to Shaytaan to come and whisper into your ears and tell you how "great" you are!  At that moment, when I heard Br. Abdul Malik sing that song in front of youth who had literally raised the roofs of the hall with their demands of listening to that very song, I couldn't help but focus on this man's face.  What was he doing?  What was he saying?  It was amazing.

The song was about him more than anybody else *at that moment.*

Are my Intentions alright?
Am I doing it for Allah?
When I'm looking deep, deep down inside
Do I have the right niyyah?

He was center stage, being watched and cheered by tens, if not hundreds of youth.  Were his intentions alright?

I just stared at his face, and got my answer.

He was thinking the same thing.

He had this look on his face.  This extremely serious look.  As if he was lost somewhere in the space at which he had his sight locked.  Every word that he was uttering was penetrating his own heart.  And I felt as if he was asking himself the same question as he sang ..

Are my intentions alright?
Am I doing it for Allah?

It was surreal.  He looked like he was about to cry.  I already had tears in my eyes.

I don't know.  Maybe I got too attached to this song at that moment.  Maybe because I can relate to Br. Abdul Malik, being a singer.  But when I heard it on tape, it didn't sound as good.  Maybe the recording is bad.  All the music overtakes the voice of the singer.

By the way, SA, you need to post more :)  Seriously!  How about starting off with the 10 Tips thread in the Akhwat Cafe? ;)

Wassalamu alaikum.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah,

Yesterday (at Laboogie's crib, thanx ma) I listened to Zain Bhika for the first time.. what can I say but mashaAllah :)  He has a beautiful voice, and his songs are deep.  My favorite song is # 12 of Towards the Light.

so now as you long for your past
prepare for your future
but knowing nothing's gonna last
you see this life is but a road
a straight and narrow path
to our final abode
so travel well o muslim
and paradise will be your home
and always remember
that you are never alone

I must have listened to it twenty times so far on continuous loop :)

That song is definitely added to my top ten :)

wasalaamu alaykum.
