asl,

So how many of you saw it here in the UK last night?? Be honest! :)
It was the UNCUT version :)

I've been dying(not a good phrase to use with this movie!) to see it for years but couldn't find the guts to see it except the first 10 mins!

Those first few mins were scary enough cos I didn't know what to expect and the presenter said "And now the scariest movie ever. This movie is NOT for children, even Adults are advised to precede with extreme caution when watching for it contains graphics scenes of demonism, explicit language......"  My heart was pumping like mad, both in excitement and fear!!

However, one thing that amazed me was the AZAAN in the opening credits and that really soothed my nerves along with the subsequent scenes in Iraq. That was the last thing I expected from the Exorcist! Amazing eh?

I had it time-recored and will watch it when I get the time ;-D (honestly)

Anyway are there any real stories of exorcisms in Islam?

Wassalam

Aslamu alaikum wa rahmatullah

There is always the book of Abu Ameena Bilal Philips titled "The Exorcist Tradition in Islam" which he submitted as a PHD thesis. In addition to expounding on "The Spirit-World" and "Spirit Possession the book also profiles and interviews many Modern Muslim Exorcist as well as Christian ones.

There are many accounts of real life cases of Jinn Possession from all over the world. I have not read it myself but have heard from many people that it is very, very scary.

As for the movie, well I have seen it before and I feel the only reason why it is considered the scariest movie ever made is because it is actually based on a true phenomenon. Otherwise the depiction of the possessed girl is more hilarious than frightening i.e., her head twisting 180 degrees, her puking green vomit all over the exorcist, very amusing indeed.

Never seen the movie, and I doubt very much I will go and see it. I don't mean to be a kill joy but there are types of movies which I classify as aflaam shaytaniya (shaitani films), the exorcist and Hannibal being under this description.

I know in Egypt you have shaikhs who apparently specialize in this field, and then you have wannabes who say they know the Quran and can tell whether or not you are possessed.

My take on the issue is, read Al muathatain, (surat al nas/al falaq) after you wake up, before going to sleep, also read ayat al qursi before going to sleep. I don't remember the ahadeeth related to these reading these surah's/ayat so if someone can bring them up, I'd appreciate it.

Wa Allahu A3laam.

The Prophet [saw] has said
"Do not make your homes like the graveyards, indeed the devils flee from the house in which surah Al-Baqarah has been read"
(related by Muslim 1/159)

Rememberance before sleeping

'When retiring to his bed every night, the Prophet [saw] would hold his palms together, spit (A form of spitting comprising mainly of air with a little spittle)in them, recite the last three chapters of the Quraan and then wipe over his entire body as much as possible with his hands, beginning with his head and face and then all parts of his body, he would do this three times.'

The Prophet [saw] also said: 'When you are about to sleep recite aayat-ul-kursiyy till the end of the verse for there will remain over you a protection from Allah and no devil will draw near to you until morning.'

The Prophet [saw] also said: 'Whoever recites the last two verses of of Suurah Al-Baqaarah at night. those two verses shall be sufficient for him.'

The above was taken from Hisnul Muslim.
