slm,

alhamdulillah, the librarians and the administration in our school are ok with us praying, so the librarians just let us use any empty room in the library to pray in. i just go during lunch time... i have 30 minutes for lunch, so it only takes about 15 minutes or less to do wudu and do salaah. and if any of my muslim friends have lunch at the same time as me, then we do it in jamaah.

as for jummuah, we do it at the beginning of lunch period every friday in a room in the library... we just had to give our principal the names of all the people who will attend and he notified all of our teachers to let us be excused from class during that time... and this year, my friend and i are taking turns each week to give the khutbah, but hes graduating this year so next year im gonna have to do it all myself :o

but anyway, we usually have around 8 - 10 brothers come each week... the sisters stopped coming for some reason, but alhamdulillah at least we are able to fulfil our obligation each week even while we are in school :)

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllah,

Originally we prayed in the auditorium.  It was pretty cool, except the floor was slanted towards the stage so it was pretty hard to do sajdah :)

Then we got permission from two teachers whose classrooms are empty during lunchtime (we have two lunch shifts) and we prayed there.  Alhamdulillah, that's worked best.  We have maybe 12 regulars :)

As for jummah... man, the memories :)  We tried a lot of different things.. we had people from the local masjid come by and pick us up.. we tried to have our own jummah in an empty classroom, with one of the brothers giving the khutbah.  None of them worked out very well :)  What happens now I think is that all the brothers go in two cars.  InshaAllah when I get a car all the sisters will go too :-)

Because the students were missing classes when attending jummah, they had to seek permission from their teachers.  The easiest way to get teachers to accomodate you is with a note from your parents, or getting your parents to call in.

A lot of times you get a lot of grief from teachers/administrators/counselors etc.. but in truth the majority of them are just ignorant of the rights you have, the right to pray in school, or to be excused from class to go to jummah..

I wrote something a while back, it was called "praying in public school in 3 easy steps" or something like that :)  If I find it I'll post it inshaAllah.

Also check out A Parent's Guide to Religion in Public Schools - this is an *excellent* pamphlet, it tells you all of your rights.

I've had some experience with this kinda stuff, if you have any questions or you need help, let me know, I have access to a lot of materials etc that might make things easier inshaAllah..

ok, that's enough out of me :)

wasalaam.

Hmm.  It seems like all of you have lunches at a time when the Dhuhr time has already begun!

Does anybody go to a school where lunch was before noon?  Like over here, the lunches (there are two) are from 11:00 to 11:30 and 11:30 to Noon.

At my school there are lots of muslims but i dont think any one prays in a room or anything. We have our lunch at 11 to 12 so i just try to pray once i get home from school.

Assalamu Alaikum,

We don't have that many Muslims in our school. We're about 7 or 8 students and only two of them are brothers. Me and a couple of the other sisters pray in the guidance office between fifth and sixth periods. Sometimes one of the brothers comes but it's usually the sisters. For Ju'mah I think the brothers are excused from school and go for about an hour. A couple of the sisters go to Ju'mah but the rest of them don't.
We're lucky that the guidance coordinator allows us to pray in his room, because last year the principal didn't allow us because they said that then thet have to allow all the different religions to practice in school.
That's all from me. C'LL LATER.

Salam,

ABD, how do you pray 4 rak'ahs between 5th and 6th periods?  How long is the passing period in your school?  In mine it was 6 minutes, and that's not enough time.

Or do you just arrive late for 6th period, and the teacher is ok with it?

Luckily it is summer and now the days r longer so i can get back home and pray on time.
btw, it takes me 1hrs 2 get home from ma college, or i wud have gone home 2 pray at lunch times.

Inshallah i will b in uni next septembver where there is a betta muslim community

At my school we don't have a dedicated room for salat like other schools so we pray in the library or one of the empty study halls.  For jumuah they bring an imam, but I always try to schedule AM class so I can go to the masjid.

take a COMPASS sis!!! AND USE IT!!!

neways i come home n pray, our lunch is 50 minits long, n if i walk fast it takes 5/6 mins to get home. So i usually pray at home!!!
but 2 yrs back, i ahd to stay in skool durin lunch, n the muslim bros din let the sisters pray, n most the sisters stopped prayin there coz of them.  I had to pray in offices, but on fridays i'd walk in with the older gurls, and a bro that lead the jammah, n i'd b able to pray without certain so called muslims kickin me out!!!
:)

But next yr this may b hard for me, coz i'll b in colledge n i wanna go to the same 1 that nehar goes to. So it may b hard to find a place to pray.
But i am sure allah will help me n guide me:)

wa-salam
