Brother needs help!!!

There is a good brother I know in the UK with a problem.  I don't quite know how to help him or if anything can be done.  His problem is he is losing his hair and going *gasp* bald.  Alhumdullilah I haven't been affected by this disease, yet.  I'm concerned for my brother, and was wondering if there was any food, exercise, or medicine he could take?   Or is it hopless for him? ???  I have noticed people out here from the Afghani community have all their hair usually, alhumdullilah, but people from the Pakistani/Indian communities tend to lose their hair.  Do you think its some dietary issue?

i don't think loosing hair is a disease bro, or maybe im wrong. Though there are solutions to baldness, he could go the Rogaine route.

Most men who lose their hair have androgenic alopecia, a hereditary condition, so food and exercise aren't a real reason.

Is the brother concerned though with his hair loss? It's not really a bad thing for a lot of people; I have friends who just shaved their heads to get it over with and they look good.

If he wants to try to salvage his hair, he can try some medical treatments. I don't know what they have over in the UK, but Rogaine (generic name minoxidil) is over the counter and helps. It works best in young individuals (20's and early 30's) who have been experiencing hair loss for only a few years and have just some minimal hair loss. So its very effective for those young men who try to nip the problem at its bud before it goes out of control. There are a few side effects, nothing really bad though, unless you have a heart condition.

There is also a drug called Propecia in the US (generic name finasteride) that is available with prescription. It also works best in younger people. It is also relatively safe, with some side effects in a small percentage of people.

There can be both benefits and drawbacks to medical treatment for baldness, and if the brother is concerned about his hair loss, then I would recommend he go see a doctor.

Again, if it's not a big deal with him, then Alhamdulillah. I remember my barber used to have a sign in his shops saying "bald is beautiful!". That sort of perplexed me, because bald people aren't going to be coming to the barber shop and get that reassurance.

One of my good friends struggled with his genetics and hair loss for some time. He used Rogaine but it didn't help. The genetic component of the condition was too strong. So he just took his razor and went from :( to :). And he's happy now.

Hopefully this was some help. Again, see a doctor if it's a concern.

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

Have no solution I'm afraid but was wondering:

Has the link between stress and hair loss ever been proven?

Btw are we talking bald bald or receding hairline bald?

I don't think the brother is bald-bald yet, just losing hair.

Assalamu alaikum,

Can I say something in this brothers folder? ... I'll take that as a yes :-)

What I want to say, if the brother is concerned about appearance he should know that not all sisters are shallow.  Baldness can be attractive!

Okay, I am going to go outa here b4 someone kicks me out!

wa alaikum assalaam warhmatullahi wa barakatuh,

mona :) v nice, but that's still shallowness.

if he is married, it shouldn't matter how much hair he has on his head, just that he is true 2 his creator.  now that's attractive :)

noura,

Actually I don't know if its a problem for the brother, he mentioned it, and I thought if there was any thing out there that may help him (even though he didn't ask) I would be happy to pass it on to him.

Kashif, I believe the brother is in his mid 20s.

I actually thought there were some herbs or plants he could eat that would help this situation, since I have seen homeopathic and alleopathic medicines used for the treatment of different things.  I thought maybe someone was aware of this for hair.

assalamau alaikum warhmatullahi wa barakatuh,

mona, subhanAllah, not at all. i'm so sorry if i offended u. plz 4give me. i was kidding. i realize ur comment was intended 2 help the bro. i was simply pting out that shallowness is when u like or dislike a person on the basis on his appearance. u said u liked baldness and although that's not what most ppl like, it's still favoring a physical feature. u were kidding i no, and so was i. i have this obsession 4 pting out contradictions and word/grammar issues. sorry i took it a little 2 far this, wrg context :)

wasalaamu alaikum,

Its probably just a case of MPB (Male-Pattern Baldness). And it comes to some people early, and others later.

Assalam ualykum,

Baldness should be the least of worries for people, it's not a disease! :)

but anyway, it can be painful i guess to see yourself loose all that beautiful hair. Baldness is a genetic trait that both men and women have but very few women have it and in those women it shows up very differently than in the men. Diet and other chemical reactions in the body can trigger it early or late. like my biology professor put it, "when the males have all that nice testostrone fully matured," in some males the balding will start early.

Did you know that women who carry the gene for baldness and excerise a lot and take testostrone to get muscels will also start balding no matter what their age is cuz the bald gene is only triggered in the presence of lots of testostrone. and of cousre they will also get facial hair and a heavy voice.

wassalam
