Assalaam Alaikum,

Welcome to the New Islamic Year Forum. 1422 is almost upon us.. TOMORROW insha allah.

So we can talk about the hijrah and the sahabah and some Islamic history.

This is what I assigned my class today:

Find one person that you think is a good role model that you would like to try to be like this new Islamic year. Write 1 paragraph on them and why you find them inspiring.

I told them they couldn't do Rasulullah [saw] even though he is the BEST role model.

So here's my answer:

I find the story of Barakah fascinating. She was known as Umm Aiman. She was from Abyssinia in Africa originally the servant of his [saw] mother Amina and was present when she was pregnant. There are some cool ahadith of when she talks about how Amina felt. She was there when he was born and she was the one who brought the young orphan back to Makkah after his mother died on the way. She lived close to him throughout his years of growth, study and struggle and years of revelation, torture, emigration and the establishment of the first community in Islam. On the date of his wedding, the prophet [saw] helped arrange for her wedding and set her free. She lived through the birth of all his children, Khadija's death. After the revelation of Islam, she was among the first Muslims. Umm Aiman was always among the Muslim women to be found at the battles. After the prophet [saw] died Umm Aiman lived on for many years. Even though she cared for Rasulullah when he was a baby, she outlived most of the Companions. When asked why she continued to weep, she explained, "Don't I know that he has gone to something which is better for him than this world? I weep for the news of Heaven which has been cut off from us!" I find that statement amazing for someone who was so close to the prophet [saw] throughout his life. Her concern was not for the one she loved for she knew he was in a better place but for her connection to Allah.  Such faith.

Hmm ... I hope nobody will misunderstand this from the Madina News snippet.

The hijrah was NOT performed exactly 1422 years ago from today!  This is the month of Muharram.  Hijrah was NOT performed in the month of Muharram, but in another month.

BTW, does anyone remember off the top of their head (no cheating from a seerah book :)) which month was it??

Consider this a sample of the next Quran word quiz bonus question :)

Wassalamu alaikum.

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

[Note: I'm not sure whether this "person" had to be companion but I read it as maybe being a bit more general]

I remember the first time I read the Hadith below and thinking :

1. How courageous this "believer" was and

2. How he must have known about the Hadith before the event took place and was thus fulfilling a prophecy.

Such courage

[color=Blue]Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:

The Dajjal would come forth and a person from amongst the believers would go towards him and the armed men of the Dajjal would meet him and they would say to him:

Where do you intend to go?

He would say: I intend to go to this one who is coming forth.

They would say to him: Don't you believe in our Lord?

He would say: There is nothing hidden about our Lord.

They would say: Kill him.

Then some amongst them would say: Has your master (Dajjal) not forbidden you to kill anyone without (his consent)? And so they would take him to the Dajjal and when the believer would see him, he would say: O people. he is the Dajjil about whom Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) has informed (us).

The Dajjal would then order for breaking his head and utter (these words): Catch hold of him and break his head. He would be struck even on his back and on his stomach. Then the Dajjal would ask him: Don't you believe in me?

He would say: You are a false Masih.

He would then order him to be torn (into pieces) with a saw from the parting of his hair up to his legs. After that the Dajjal would walk between the two pieces. He would then say to him: Stand, and he would stand erect. He would then say to him: Don't you believe in me?

And the person would say: It has only added to my insight concerning you (that you are really the Dajjal). He would then say: O people, he would not behave with anyone amongst people (in such a manner) after me. The Dajjal would try to catch hold of him so that he should kill him (again). The space between his neck and collar bone would be turned into copper and he would find no means to kill him. So he would catch hold of him by his hand and feet and throw him (into the air) and the people would think as if he had been thrown in the Hell-Fire whereas he would be thrown in Paradise.

Thereupon Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: He would be the most eminent amongst persons in regard to martyrdom in the eye of the Lord of the world. [Muslim][/color]
