Wa alaykum assalam Brother

Thank you for welcoming me. And Guten Tag :D
About Islam and Muslims in Germany...hmm...actually we are 3 Million Muslims in Germany. From that number there are approximately 100.000-200.000 german converts.
Alhamdulillah we are getting more active, but it is not easy since the Germans do not really "appriciate" Religions, especially Islam!
The most of the brothers and sisters feel that it is getting worse with the attitude of the people towards Islam and Muslims. I don't actually know how it is in Germany. Especially for sisters with hejjab. The hejjabis do have a lot of difficulties concering work. A sister did not get a job as a teacher in public school, another got "fired" although she was a teacher for more than 10 years. I dont know if you heard that the European Court for Human Rights in Strassbourg, denied the right of a sis to teach in a public school in Switzerland.
Yeah pretty hard. May Allah protect us and lead us to Siratul Mustaqueem.

Amin

Asalaamu aleikoum sister.

Welcome to the board.  Perhaps you can get in touch with sister Eleanor (she lives near Stuttgart) and, Insha' Allah, help her get in touch with a muslim community near to her?

Marhaba Schwester Muslima-Aktiv.

I'm the Eleanor who lives near Stuttgart. Welcome to the board!! You have great english considering you speak Turkish and German fluently too!
It's true what you said about the Muslims having a hard time in Germany. In a town called Esslingen (also near Stuttgart), a Muslim community, mainly Turks I think, have raised millions of Deutsch Marks to build a mosque with towers and a Dome. They have it all planned and have a site and now it looks like it will be turned down for planning permission. One local politician was quoted as saying "We don't need a Mosque here as a symbol of Muslim power". What crap!! In Muslim countries you can find beautiful churches and cathedrals and yet the Christians criticise the Muslims for being extremist and intolerant. Sometimes I want to get sick over the german attitude. I also read that about the teacher not being allowed to teach because of her hijab. I wouldn't mind only she was supposed to be teaching Islamic studies (!!!!!!!!). The germans are so narrow minded really!! They're afraid of being taken over or of losing control. I suppose being beaten in two World Wars will do that to you.
By the way Muslima-Aktiv, I'm not german, I'm Irish which would explain my fluency in english.

anyway, I look forward to your input on the board!

Auf wiedersehen und bis bald!
deine Schwester in Islam
Eleanor.

In contrast I would have to say the British are *very* tolerant as a race.

This is the main reason why me and my husband want to move to Britain. The Pakistani culture is very evident there as is the Irish..there are loads of mosques and freedom to practice one's religion in peace.
I think so anyway. Dublin is getting better all the time. They have an Islamic school and about 5/6 mosques that I know of.

Wa alaykum assalam dear sister Eleanor und Hallo :-)

Alhamdulillah that you are not the only muslim who says the same about Germany. Actually I think it is getting worse in Germany. It wasn't that bad before. You are absolutely right with your attitude about Germans.

You know, it makes me angry when some of them try to act as the "superior" who have to rule our life and thinking. Especially concerning our belief. Well, and when you are turkish, you can forget it at all. This are my experiences.

This story about the mosque in Esslingen is nothing new actually. I don't know if you know the mosque in Aachen "Bilal Moschee". It is very big and has a minarett.
They wanted to build a muslim youth center, with gym-rooms and also swimming pools...all seperate for girls and boys. well, it must be more than 10 years ago now...they are still waiting for permission,...if they did not give up until now.

actually, although i was born and raised here, and also do speak german fluently (better than turkish and english-even if the most of the german dont want to hear it), i can say that i do not want to live all my life here.
may Allah help us.

Okay I was just catching up with a few threads but I had to make this comment:

Sister PB how many languages do you know?!!! ;-)

At least we don't have to worry about language problems once this board goes truly international!;)
