[slm] Hmm. I didn't know where to post this. This seems to be the most appropriate place. I'm having trouble with some school work. Does anyone know how to do error propagation with logs? For example, if I have a value 1.509 +/- 0.0798, and I need to take its log, how will I propagate the error value (+/- 0.0798)? Any statisticians here?? :) Jazaak Allaahu Khairan. |

Assalamu alaikum, There's a web site that runs a java script to calculate these things. Go to http://members.aol.com/johnp71/erpropgt.html Type the following x=1.509, error=0.0798, function is z=log10(x) The answer to your above example is +/- 0.022972. Don't ask me to explain the actual formula b/c I dunno! But if you work at it with few other examples you should be able to figure it out. Wassalam |
