What's a Sister to do?

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.

Can someone please tell me what an unmarried Sister should do in this situation....

1. If a male repairman needs to go to her house and she has no one with her, or who could be with her, and she would end up being alone with him?

2. Basically, if any male *needed* to go to her house for *any necessary* reason.

I ask because just today, a law enforcement officer (code-enforcement) came out to my house and wanted to enter. (I called last Friday for a nuisance I was having) I felt very uncomfortable letting him in and asked him if there was a female officer that could come out instead. He said no and that he would return tomorrow. I am alone here, and do not feel AT ALL comfortable with that. What should I do?

JazakAllahKhairan for any help.

Wa'assalam,

Serena :)

Assalam'alaykum,

You can ask another sister to come to your house, or one of your family members.  At least you wouldn't be alone with the man.

Assalamu Alaikum Anonymous,

Unfortunately, my family is not talking to me at all. And they live 2 hours away, anayway. Also, because I am a new Muslimah, I don't know any sisters, yet, in the area that I would feel comfortable enough asking to come out to my house. So, the problem remains the same :)

Wa'assalam,

Serena

Wa'alaikumussalam warahmatullah wabarakaatuh,

Something happened to me once...

The boiler broke down (yes.. it was freezing!), and my housemates were out, and the repairman came.

I let him in, but I kept the door open. That's what I did, after weighing my circumstances....

will continue later, inshaAllah...
wassalam

It's always a good idea to call the place and verify who the person is that is supposed to be at your house. That way you know they're the legit person and the ppl there know who's in your house.
