asalamu alykum This has been irking me for a while. Why do some Muslims, brothers especially, lower their gaze when they see a MUSLIM of the opposite gender (which is good mashaALLAH).. yet when they see a non-Muslim of the opposite gender they all stare and don't even think about lowering their gaze. Is this or is this not hypocrisy? wasalams |

[slm] I don't think it has anything to do with double standards. A Muslim understands that the reason why the other person is not looking them in the eye during a conversation is because they are lowering their gaze. A non-Muslim doesn't! They may take it as rudeness or as an insult that you are not looking them in the eye when they are talking to you or you are talking to them. I am not saying that you shouldn't lower your gaze in front of a non-Muslim. But this is the explanation to your answer. Wallaahu a'lam. |
