as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah,

"I seek refuge in Allah that I remind you of Him and forget Him my ownself."

How do you say this in Arabic?

Assalam
I believe the dua you are looking for is something like this:
A'oothu biLLahi an otha-kiraka bihi, wa an ansaah"

Assalaamu alaikum,
"I seek refuge in Allah that I remind you of Him and forget Him my ownself."
What does this mean? Can someone please explain, when is this dua used?

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllah,

I heard someone say it after a lecture, I thought it was really beautiful.. after you give this whole lecture, reminding people about Allah, our purpose in life, what we should be doing, you're asking Allah to protect you from telling other people about all this and forgetting to do it yourself..

does that make sense?

The dua is saying, I feel bad that I remind you about Allah but then I don't follow my own words. ie...

"I seek refuge in Allah

so I want Allah to protect me from

that I remind you of Him
when i remind you about Allah

and forget Him my ownself."

and then I myself forget about Allah.

Oh, now I get it! I got confused in all the myself, ownself, yourself, him, you, etc :) Yes, it is a beautiful dua. Following our own advice!

There is a verse in the Qur'an, which I'm sure all of you know about, which says:

Kabura maqtan 3indallahi an taqooloo maa laa taf3aloon.

I think the du'aa can be made in such a way as to reflect this ayah.  Something like:

Allahumma innee a3oodhu bika an aqoolu maa laa af3al.

And there is another verse which states:

Ata'muroon an-naasa bil birri wa tansawna bihi ...

The du'aa, following this pattern, can be something like:

Allahumma innee a3oodhu bika an amirun naasa bil birri wa ansu bihi.

Someone, anyone, with a good command of the Arabic language, please correct my grammar in the du'aas.

Wassalamu alaikum.

as salaamu alaykum wa rahmatAllahi wa barakatuh,

First let me give the meaning of some of what br Arsalan said for those who don't understand:
There is a verse in the Qur'an, which I'm sure all of you know about, which says:

Kabura maqtan 3indallahi an taqooloo maa laa taf3aloon.
Grieviously odious is it in the sight of God that you say that which you do not. - Surah Saff ayah 3, Q61:3
I think the du'aa can be made in such a way as to reflect this ayah.  Something like:

Allahumma innee a3oodhu bika an aqoolu maa laa af3al.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You that I say what I do not do.
And there is another verse which states:

Ata'muroon an-naasa bil birri wa tansawna bihi ...
I don't know where this verse is.. you need to cite bro :)
The du'aa, following this pattern, can be something like:

Allahumma innee a3oodhu bika an amirun naasa bil birri wa ansu bihi.
O Allah I seek refuge in You that I order people to do good and I do not do it myself.

I asked my father about these (he knows fusha), he said they were fine grammatically.

These, and the dua that anonymous mentioned, are exactly what I was looking for :)

Jazak Allahu khayran everyone :)

wasalaamu alaykum.

The second verse is from Surah al-Baqarah, ayah 44:

Ata'muroon an-naasa bil birri wa tansawna anfusakum, wa antum tatloona al-kitaaba; afalaa ta3qiloon?

That is,

Do ye enjoin right conduct on the people, and forget (To practise it) yourselves, and yet ye study the Scripture? Will ye not understand?

Note: I wrote "bihi" instead of "anfusakum."  The du'aa, therefore, should be:

Allahumma innee a3oodhu bika an amirun naasa bil birri wa ansu nafsee.

Bihi would also work though, I guess.

Wassalaamu alaikum.

P.S. se7en, your dad knows fusha?!?  Wow!
