| Pakistani Islamists demand ban on women in advertisments KARACHI, March 29 (AFP) - Hundreds of women members of Pakistan's main fundamentalist party, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), rallied here Thursday to demand a ban on women in advertisments. "Showing women in print and electronic advertisments is vulgar and must be banned," JI's local women's wing chief Atya Nisar told AFP. "Today's protest is part of our countrywide campaign against exploitation in the name of liberalism or rights for women," she said, adding more rallies would be held this month. Witnesses said more than 500 women carried placards and banners with slogans such as "Stop Obscenity on TV" and "Give Respect to Women" as they marched on the main commercial centre of this southern city.
