As-salaamu alakium people
Next year, spring semester of 2002, I have to write my thesis paper, im a history major, woo-hoo :).  I have no idea what im going to write about;(some are saying like thats a year from now) BUT Im a planner and I like to get stuff out of the way before they are done (I hate being stressed).  So I was thinking about historial women in islam, dealing with women in islam, etc. either one in particular or severaly.  Inshallah I'll like to master in women in islam (someday).  I thought this would be an interesting subject plus it would help me learn more about women in islam, you know.
Anyways, I wanted to know if anyone knows about GOOD books, authetic ariticles/books that I can use.  Also do you think that there is enough material on this subject in English?  Remember this is a 40-60page paper so I need alot of resources plus they have to be authentic (b/c of citation).  By the way does anyone know any one who has written on this subject, maybe they can help me out.
Inshallah, I can start my research this summer and be a head of the game :)

Thanks

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatul Lahe Wa Barakatu

Can you write your thesis about one of Prophet Mohammad's (peace be upon him) wives?

I have a document that a friend sent me called The Life of Aishah. Would you like me to send it to you sister laboogie?

Wa salamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatul Lahe Wa Barakatu

P.S. Love the name ;)

wa alaykum as salaam,

You're working on a thesis paper a YEAR before it's due?  That's seriously crazy.

Hmm.. maybe you can do women warriors in muslim history?  You could start with some of the women warriors of the prophet [saw]'s time, like Nusaybah bint Ka'ab [;)], all the way up to Zainab al-Ghazali from Egypt, who went through serious jihad and endured a lot fisabilillah..

Or maybe women scholars?  That's a topic unfortunately many ppl don't know about, and it'd be really interesting I think.

I remember a speaker talking abut this huge work that a woman scholar wrote back in the day... and near the end of it, it was a vast encyclopedia with many volumes, she wrote, forgive me if I made mistakes in this, because as I write this with my right hand, I'm rocking my child to sleep with my left..

subhanAllah.. those were women who had their lives in the right balance..

role models for us eh :)  It'd be awesome to study them I think.

Lemme think of some good books for ya..

wasalaam.
