Assalam ualykum,

I was at college sitting outside where they have a bunch of chairs and stuff and was doing my homework. When I was done with my homework, I put my book back in my back pack. I only had one book in there, and so anyway I put it on and get up to leave and everyone sitting there gives me a strange look and one girl had this huge smile on her face. I'm thinking i got food on my face and so i keep walking and touch my face to see if there's something but there isn't. Then I notice that my back pack felt really strange. I bring my hand back to feel it and there isn't a book!? And why is it open? But why does it have weight then?!? I take it off and notice that somehow, (don't know how), the book had was entangled in a weird way and hanging out of my open back pack; i had forgoten to zip it up and the book was swinging in the air. i bet that must have been a weird thing for everyone to see.

Salaams,
Ok, this is my most embarrassing moment up to date.  To weeks ago, during jummah, we had a little visitor (a bat) yep, you heard right, there was a bat flying around during the khutbar. The good thing was that when it was time to make salat, he left (how nice of him :))
So anyways getting back to my story.  After jummah prayer in our community we usually have pizza and soda and stuff and people talk, etc.  So it was a couple of sisters and I chilling, talking, while the brothers were in front of us selling the pizza and talking, etc. All of sudden the bat comes out again. Everyone is buggy out now; he's flying over people’s head, in front of us, etc.  Then the bat goes behind a curtain; so I go trying to be this super woman, trying to help my fellow sisters and BROTHERS! (B/c they were not doing anything) and trap the bat in the curtain. So I’m standing there looking at the brothers, asking them to get a black garbage bag, to help me and they just stand there, looking at me as though I have 2heads or something. Then this young brother (probably 10-11) starts yelling at me "Allah put that bat here for a reason, to see what we were going to do, etc...." So "I’m like ok, my brother, ok" and then this other brother tells me what are you doing, leave the bat along, etc.
It was soooooooo embarrassing b/c all the brothers were looking at me and the second brother who said something to me made me feel sooo stupid, I felt like crap. I’m here thinking I’m helping out and I get screamed on, the nerve.
Oh well, that’s my most embarrassing moment, sorry it was so long but I like to give alot of details, so you can visualize it :)

aight peace

ok..2nd most embarrassing moment...

I was about 3 years old and was swinging on a swing in the back garden. Then I fell off backwards but instead of hitting the ground my feet got caught in the ropes and I was left hanging upside down. So, being 3 years old I opened my mouth as wide as it would go and wailed and screamed for help.
Did my mother come running to help me?
noooo..
what did she do?
she grabbed a camera and took a photo of me swinging upside down by the ankles and screaming my head off. I was also wearing a dress with only underpants on underneath, so everything was on display.
This counts as embarrassing moment no's 2 - 100 because that photo got dragged out for visitors until I was at least 12 years old and finally had the wherewithal to confiscate the darned thing..
fume..!!

as to dhikr's apathetic brothers story, here ya go

a while ago, one of the brothers( we'll call him ed for now) had his engagement party or somehtign and se7en and i go.it was a this hall type place and the bathrooms to the place weere kinda weird.you know how usually the girls and boys rooms have signs with like a picture of a stick girl with a skirt and the stick guy. but this place was different. the signs there had like just a face, and the boys face had like a baseball cap.

but anyyyywayys. they call adhan for isha , so me and se7en are heading to the bathroom. i open the door to find a guy making wodhu in the girls bathroom, and im like "se7en theres a guy in the girls bathroom" and she peeks in too

so were panicking, luckily a brother walks by, the same brother's whose engagement party it is,(ed)so me and se7en call him over and were like" ed, s some guy in the girls bathroom" and hes like " aiite ill handle it" and he goes in,

a few minutes later the guy comes out with a look of confusion on his face, and rite after him, ed comes out and with a look of embarrassment says admittingly "that was my dad"
hahahhaha
(me and se7en were rolling on the floor):) [sub] [This post was modified by razia on 04/07/01 at 21:20:10]

LOL. That is so funny dhikr. Thank you for sharing that. :D I just did something very stupid and found out about it today which I will not share with any of you until my ego has healed and my mom will stop telling everyone what I did!! So it makes me feel better reading all the embarassing things that others have done.  Parents can be so insensitive sometimes.

This incident happened in the cafeteria of our summer Muslim youth camp.  **This might be offensive.

This was in the mid-80's I was in my teens I should have known better but my vocabulary wasn't very good or something being clueless of zodiac signs.

My friends and I were sitting chuckling and eating our lunch across from the sisters tables.  One of my friends who was being on the mean side pointed to a prettier girl and asked "I wonder if she's a virgin" Well I thought virgin was the same as virgo the zodiac sign so when she strolled by well I asked her the question "Are you a virgin" when I heard a burst of laughter from my table and she quickly blushed and went to the camp counselor and told on me. The counselor came to me I was still confused.  She said it was not a nice question to ask.  Then someone asked me what were you doing?  I said I thought virgin and virgo were the same and then they laughed even harder.
You can imagine how embarassed I was and I didn't even get a chance to apologize.

OK.. I think I'm ready to share, it's nearly a decade now... *taking in a deep breath*

I have LOADS of embarrassing moments... but I'll be brave... here goes... THis is pretty long.. but try and visualise it, inshaALlah....

I was about 15, and was minding my own business, going up the bus and quickly tried to find a seat, coz, I'm REALLY tired. I saw a space, and there's another guy from another school sitting at the inner side of the seat. Well, I quickly plopped down, but this guy, had his legs spread out (you know how guys sit!), so, I have a very small space for myself (which I realised, after I sat).

So, I turned my body away from him, and I sat with my legs VERY closed together, and I bent my body.. somehow, to make me be smaller (don't ask me why.. but I did that) and have my left forearm/elbow on my right thigh, with my body bent. (Hope U can imagine that, inshaALlah.)

Then, I felt something itchy on my right thigh. But becoz, my body is pretty closed up, trying to fit myself in that really small space of a seat, I thought my left arm, was on my left leg...

Then, I started to scratch what I thought was my right thigh... and of course, following my "instict" I didn't look at what I scratched ...and guess who's thigh I scratched??!!!!

That guy's!!! I was soooo EMBARRASSED!!!

It was a good thing he didn't wear shorts! Or he's some pervert or maniac! Yucks! and Yucks nevertheless!

I quickly voiced a "sorry", turned away... though still glued onto the seat.. and waited for eternity till my stop comes...!!!!

Uuggghhh!!! and that's just one of those embarrassing moments.. there're more an` somehow.. it always involved BOYS!!!! Thank God, that now, I'm an adult, my embarrassing moments with men are not that bad! well apart from a nightmare come true... when 2 brothers saw me without hijab!!! Ugghhh!!! and that comes with a stupid story!!

My most embarrassing stories somehow involve boys too. I would never tell those to anyone though. NEVER! They are worse than the one you told about scratching the guy.

haha, that is so true, sister saleema ! somehow i always get involved in the stupidest things when there are guys around...

i was hmm i think 13 at the time, and my moms good friends son was getting married. so of course, my best friend and i were expected to dance at the mendhi party, which delighted the both of us since we had quite an act prepared.

the tricky part, however, was practicing the dance. my mom and dad worked so they left my brother and me at my best friends house (we'll call her kuri). so kuris 2 older brothers were uninterested; to them, we were just 2 lil sisters who had nothing better to do. but then the to-be-grooms brother (we'll call him munda) came over too (which we didnt know).

so there we are, in kuris bedroom, dancing our hearts out and getting a bit crazy, as 13 yr olds tend to do...
when lo and behold! munda pops open the door and:
*click click click!*
"hey!!" we screamed in panic..."was that a camera? munda bhai!! no fair! munda bhai! we're gonna tell aunty on you!"

he was not intimidated in the least...we, on the other hand were mortified when 2 weeks later, at the wedding, along with pictures of the grooms whole family were included pictures of two girls in pink and blue langas with heavy makeup and wild expressions and in the last pic, their fingers reaching and wiggling at the camera-man, who was severely scolded by my mother the next morning....

talk about embarassing...me and kuri have been dubbed "balle balle girls" ever since...

jannah, heres the apathetic brothers story...i think.
siena "msa" had haroon sellars over one day and we were staying after at night to clean up. at the bottom of the stairs was the registration table.
br.haroon said this whole thing about how he cudnt ever stand to let his wife  take out the garbage. he was so enthusiastic abt how bad it would look to let a muslim sister with all the dignity that she has from wearing the hijab take out the garbage. and of course all us sisters were in awe about considerate some muslim brohters are and all.

but by the end of the nite, one of the brothers was lifting the registration table and cut his hand with a sharp object on the bottom the table. there was blood all over the floor, all over. so i think he went to the hospital but i went and got a few napkins and was going to clean it up (everyone else was all scared of the blood and screaming "ewwwwwwww" :))
so get this,im at the bottom of the stairs on my hands and knees , scrubbing blood off the floor, and all my hands are all bloody now, and all my napkins are soaked in blood, and i need more, so i said very sternly (ok i screamed) "can someone get me sommore napkins?" and there are two brothers standing at the top of the stairs talking , and beleive me thye heard me loud and clear,
the two brothers turn and look at me scrubbing the floor on my hands and knees (rite after br.haroon said all that stufff abt sisters) and continue on with their conversation, with the like "oh did someone say something" look.
then i screamed a few more times until another sister ran form across the room and got me some napkins,
oh noooooooo, im not bitter!:)

brothers, you know who u are, and i do to;)
i got sommore funny stories ill add later inshallah,
salaaam

assalam alaikum,

please do be angry at me, O.K? you have to promise now. purify your niyaa, then read. you can see it as an exercise!

The story is centred around a rishta at a sister’s house. I arrived, and met her parents. Masha'Allah very nice people, especially the father. I spoke to her father at length about deen, and alhamdulillah, everything was going well.

The sister, lets call her Thamina, makes occasional comments, but I tend to ignore her. She later told me that she would have appreciated some kind of acknowledgement from me, but it was my first rishta, and her 30th or something, I felt it would have been inappropriate to just start talking to her... so anyway, at one point the father asks me if I want to see a video of Hajj. I of course say yes.

The video starts, and he is describing where he was, who was leading the prayer...and then the tape goes black! The sister gets a little nervous, giggles, looks at her father, and says ‘I didn’t erase it!’. The father, whose hearing wasn’t so good, says something like:

‘Vaat!
You erase it...
stupid girl!’

Thamina goes into complaining-tone mode...everything ends in aaaahh, example:

'Oooaaahhhhh!'
'Noooo I didn’taaaaahhh!'

(And... my personal favourite)

'Why do you have to say that in front of himaaaaaaaahhh!'

A strange noise came out of my throat, and I tried to 'style it out' by clearing my throat (shaitan was slowly gaining power over my speech); I held the laughter in for about 3 seconds, if that, and then permitted myself a laugh, for just a second.

I literally had to pinch my leg to stop myself from laughing. I sensed a little annoyance from the father in my direction, but no real threat to my chances with his daughter, alhamdulillah!

I gallantly attempted to change the subject (with a big smile and a ‘I’m just trying to change the subject to rectify your domestic situation here’ type tone), but still the father persisted in embarrassing his daughter in front of me with additional unfavourable comments. The sister was frantically fast-forwarding to get to the part where something was happening. (btw she was smiling the whole time).

'You alllllvays erasing, isn't it? - with your stupid musik!'
'I'm only laughing because I knew you were going to say I erased it, but I didn't!'
(assume didn'taaah!)

He eventually gave up, and we continued with our chat.

The outcome was favourable...she told me her father had praised me for being on the right path, and being a good-natured young man. Subhan'Allah.

I left for the rihla in Spain some days later. Thamina still laughs at the story, and it always makes me smile.

Allahu ma inni a3oothubika wa nastaghfiruka wa natoobu Ilaik.

salam wa rahmat'Allah

assalam alaikum,

yes, we were 'roomies'. He kept reading poetry to me, I couldn't quite work out why. Then, one night, he left to 'sleep under the stars'. I was hoping some of the other bros would follow suit, some of them snored sooooo loud, I hardly ever slept. Some brothers (a.k.a the snorers) thought I was lazy because I'd try and sneak in an hour sleep now and then. Can you believe the gall! Wallahi I had sabr in those days, but not much. Every night I'd hit one of them to wake him up, but he'd just go back to sleep instantly and snore even louder, as though to make a point.

Actually, I called gladiator last night and we were reminiscing about the events in Cordoba. It seriously went down between the muslims and the spanish 'authorities'! If it was the states, we would have made the news!

In London there is a big musjid, there was a giant study circle going on there. it was given by one of the men I respect most who are alive today, a dawa man who has been in prisons longer then a lot of people have been alive.
The circle was interrupted by an announcement, "will the person who owns the blue Renault licence plate A######
Please move his car, you are blocking some ones exit". There was silence until I got up and walked towards the stares leading towards the car park with my keys in my hand, and then the silence was broken with laughter including the speaker.

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuhu.

I wasn't going to post this, but oh well. :)

About 2 years ago I had just received my drivers license. I was picking my daughter up at school and when I turned a corner near the school I saw an old man laying in the street. Apparently he had slipped on some leaves and he couldn't reach his cane to get up. I panicked for fear that someone would hit him because no one else was helping him. So, I pulled quickly over to the side of the road and my daughter and I jumped out of the car. I didn't put the car in park and it cruised on by across 2 lanes of traffic onto the frontyard of someone's house! Talk about embarrassing!! lol

Assalaamu alaikum,

Okay, maybe one incident from the tons of embarassing moments I have racked up over time.

So, a couple of weeks ago jumuah was held in a different room on campus. I was early and after entering the room moved to the wall on the right to take off my shoes and put down my bag. Chairs were lined up along the wall. I went to the nearest chair, placed my bag underneath it, and then knelt down to take off my shoes. I did not pay too much attention and was generally facing away from the wall. I placed my shoes beside the bag and thought I felt some cloth but did not bother. When I got up and walked past the chair I realized that a sister was sitting on that chair!!! My heart sunk but I did not turn around. And she never said anything but I guess she either had a good laugh or thought something like brothers have no hayaa these days :) I never saw her so I cannot recognize her but she can recognize me! Now that is embarassment for all times I stay on campus, and even beyond!

Wasalaam.

A potential embarrasing moment....

[slm]
i realizied i haven't posted in a while, so i figured being in the good mood i'm in ( just returned from br mokhtar's class, and he was in such a GOOD mood) i thought i would share a funny story.

b4 i do that, you need to understand a few things. i have a huge family, and i mean big. you can ask anyone from albany, they can tell you about my huge family but they don't have a clue how any one of us are related to each other. even se7en (i met her when wearing mismatching clothes was ok) doesn't know how everyone in my family is related.

ok now back to my potential embarrasing moment....

so i was doing my homework on the computer (ok i'll admit i was on the message board, but don't tell my parents) and i had just taken a shower, meaning no hijab. (* side note: when using the computer, you can see the front enterance.) so the doorbell rings, my first instict was to jump and get hijab, but i realized it was my father returning from the masjid, so i stay seated. then my unlce comes in, ok no prob, he's my mahram, it's all good. following my uncle was his son, which is ok cuz he is 7. so i continue to read some more posts. after a while another one of my uncles makes his way to the computer room. so by then i'm completely lost in reading one of the posts. as i turn towards the front enterance, i see my mom talking to someone, this someone was a male, one of my cousins, who was 15.

i freak! there was no trace of a hijab in that room. i was sitting on a chair with wheels, so my first instict was to roll back. which was impossible becuse my brother and my 7 yr old cousin were using the nintendo 64. so i, trying to go to the far end of the room almost trip on the wire, but somehow i make it with out my 15 yr old cousin seeing me. my sister ( may Allah reward her) ran into the room, after facin an obstacle of her own, with a hijab for me. i tie the hijab around my head, but there is hair coming out of every possible palce os i run to the bathroom to get a hair tie, pin my scarf up and let out a sigh of relief. i just saved myself from an embarrising moment :)

well your embarassing moment reminded me of one i had a few years ago.

I was in my room on the computer typing up a story.  I heard a knock on my door.  I asked who it was and it was my father, i said ok come in.   (im not in my hijab, plus im in shorts) ok..my dad comes in with an old friend of his, his wife, and 3 kids to see the house.

talk about how embarassing as i just slipped under the seat a bit so they wouldnt notice i was wearing shorts.....  i was fuming inside cuz my dad didnt have the decency to tell me that he was with ppl, strangers, non mahram so i could cover up.. i just sat there while they walked in the room and complimented on how big and nice the room was and clean.. and asked me what i was typing and if i had a bf or something and im like NO... im just writing stuff.. :)
anyways... they soon left for me to get back, i closed the door and cried a bit..changed then fumed to my mother on what happened.

another was when i was in pakistan.  i had written this poem.  i write a lot of poetry and sometimes its on emotions and feelings etc.  well i wrote one on love.   anyways it was in a journal book, like a diary.  my aunt opened it up and started reading it one day out loud in front of all the relatives and my mom and making fun of it.   and asking my mom if i had a secret boyfriend or something and my mom was like no she just likes to write pls dont read it she doesnt like ppl reading her personal stuff and the aunt thought it was ok for her to read it as she wanst really counted as ppl but family and my mom was like she doesnt like it if we read it either so dont read it please and my aunt ignored my mom and continue dto read it..  i was in the bathroom so i could hear the whole thing.  when i got out i kinda rudely grabbed the book from her hand as sh was reading it and gave her this look like how dare you invade my privacy and she was giving me this look like how dare you write stuff like that without having anyone...   and i told her dont read my personal private stuff again as she wouldnt like it if iwere to go in her room and read her personal mail or work and assume she is hiding something too and she called me ungrateful and spoiled and was very upset and hurt and told my mom that she had a very rude daughter and left the room.   my mom was like its ok let it go we'll talk to her in the morning.  and the next day, my mom talked to her and made her apologize to me :)  for invading my privacy...  also when my uncle, her husband, and her brothers found out what she did they too made her like apologize and said sorry she is just very nosy and gossipy..   which is not good for me :(
 anyways that was my story...
this happened ten years ago.

UmmIby,

dude!! i feel for you... the same stuff happenned to us there. it's like we have *NO* privacy whatsoever. i think they are just raised differently and they think what's yours is mine and what's mine is yours.. including all your personal stuff, possessions, writing whatever. i guess that could be good that everyone is so close and they probably think we're too individualistic.. it was just hard to get used to!

that reminds me of another embarrasing moment....

this past summer my family went to india. we were staying at my moms house and me and my sisters slept upstairs becasue it was cooler at night.  well i had this habit of tying up my hair when its wet then sticking hijab on before leaving the upstairs. one day i decided to take a nap, so i figured i'll dry my hair at the same time. after a while my siser was like some one is here put you scarf on. i was like they aren't going to come up stairs, this was our room and they knew that, boy was i wrong. while i was in the process of tying my hair up my cousin walks up. i froze, fortunatly my mom's sari was hanging on a rope accross the room and i slid it over so he couldn't see me anymore. he was like what's the big deal? by this time 2 of my other cousins (who came form the US with us) were like what the heck are you doing, get down. i think i stayed upstairs the whole time they were there.

Salaam Alaikum
All of your embarrassing stories have made me laugh so much :)
So I thought it was only fair to tell one of my own.
Once I was at an MSA meeting. There were ten people all togeather, five sisters, five brothers.  We were talking about a letter we wrote to the chancelor about needing more space. So some brother had the suggestion that we mention that Muslim women need a special space (I don’t know what exactly he was thinking).  So he asks “who’s a strong women person.” For some strange reason, I don’t know what got into me, I say “I am.” And I am a very quite person… so all of these sisters and brothers start laughing, as if they couldn't help themselves… and now some of them call me “strong sister.”

salam,

all these hijab stories mustve jinxed me because i just had an incident sunday aftertnoon,

i was at my freinds house for a barbeque and her father and two brothers (who are still young in age) were there, after a while her father and brothers left leaving us girls to do what we wish, so we decided we'll dance to indian music in her living room, (shades covered everything) so we start to get out groove on and out of nowhere her father comes in and me and my other hijabed freind run like crazy to the kitchen , i hope we were quick enuff inshallah for him not to have stop us! it was soo embarrasing!
wasalam, nouha :)

Salaams,
Nouha, that wasn't even the worst part...
so, same incident, but one thing Nouha left out was that the dance was kinda...how do you put it (...well you know what Indian dances are like...) We were in her living room, doin' some really  "interesting" steps when our freinds' brothers burst in from outside laughing hysteriically at us...(very embarassing)

I understand from your posting that you have

[quote]even worse ebaressin moments[/quote]

I would be interested in hearing about them. I find the embarrassing jokes enjoyable. It brings a slice of laughter to my mornings as well as a fondess of rememberence of similar fau pauxs.

You are teasing us by saying that you have some great moments to share with us. Only to leave us in wonder by not posting your "embaressins."

I would be most greatful if you would tell us.

I'm sad to say that what follows is not even my most embarrassing moment but all these years later it stll brings a burning blush to my cheeks.

I come from an extremely affectionate family.  My mom is forever grabbing her kids and pinching our cheeks, kissing us, etc.  So one day, I guess I was about 16, my mom and I were at the supermarket together.  I saw another mom and daughter arguing over something, and thought to myself how great it was that I got along with my own.  Overcome with affection for my mommy, I turned around, gave her a little hug and kiss, and realized that I was embracing a total stranger.  What could I do but remove my lips from her startled cheek, mumble an apology, and hide behind my mom who was standing about 12 feet back.   My mom saw the whole thing and was like 'What are you doing?!"  I explained the mix-up and she hasn't stopped laughing YET.

My face is red.
