I wanted to know if it is ok to work with males who are mentally disable or have other disabilities? For ex, as a personal care aid, etc.
Another question why can't Muslim students say the pledge of allegiance in school? Someone asked me that and I couldn’t give them an answer :/

Thanks

slm,

well about your second question, basically when you say 'i pledge allegiance to the flag of the united states of america...'... do you really wanna do that? i mean we should only pleadge out allegiance to Allah (swt), not a peice of cloth that stands for one of the largest, corrupt powers in the west... thats the basic gist of it, theres even more details which i dont remember right now, but essentially we shoudlnt cause its basically against what we believe as muslims (and besides, does the US truly stand up to the claim 'with liberty and justice for all' all the time unconditionally? somethign to think about :) )

I seem to remember reading something in the Qu'ran about that. It's in the part about before whom you may reveal yourself and it goes like..father, brother etc and at the end it's slaves and I *think* handicapped people.
I can't check it for sure at the moment but as soon as I can I will and I'll let you know.

Assalamualaikum wa rahmatullah
Eleanor, I believe the ayah you are referring to is the one from surah Noor, and you're right about the father, brother and slave but it does not include handicapped ppl, although I think a mentally challenged person might be included in "those lacking sense of sex", wallahu a'lam
Here's the ayah:
And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss (024.031)

wassalam
