a shocking observation

assalaamu alaikum

You know how sisters are supposed to be all nice and polite? and like you know.. 'girls are made of silk and spice and all things nice...' etc.

Anyway, i was standing on the train opposite some pakistani sis and i was reading a book and then she calls someone on her mobile and she sounded like a ragamuffin.

I was like "woah!" [color=green][sub][center][This post was modified by Kashif on 04/06/01 at 21:56:22]

Forget that, I have seen a sister (wearing a scarf) walking around with some geezers, other things have also been seen but not suitable for this board, laa hawla wa laa quwwata illa billah

I think Kashif is the ideal person to explain that !

interesting point refer to how the the women came to Musa (as) and the scholars pointed out that this is from the beauty and fitra of women.

p.s. This is not just peculiar to Pakistanis I have seen exactly the same thing with the bengalis in e.london. [sub] [This post was modified by muhannad on 04/07/01 at 09:54:26]

emmm...
I don't want to offend anyone here seriously..and I *am* married to a Pakistani, but I have made the observation over the past few years that Pakistanis do tend to "shout" while on the phone. (to put it mildly).
Now that's only the ones that *I* have observed.

Assalam ualykum,

LOL. For some reason, *all* pakistanis shout on the phone when calling long distance. LOL. I guess they somehow think that they are separated by a bunch of seas that they need to shout in order for them to hear.

Ok, fess up everybody. Who's parents do that?

Yes, many Pakistanis do shout on the phone when speaking long distance.  The reason for this has to do with how things used to be in Pakistan a few years ago.

I still remember when I was 8 years old, we used to talk to my uncle one the phone who was studying in Kansas.  The telephone connections were so bad that he would not be able to hear us unless we shouted on the phone!  I remember also that it was hard to hear the other side, i.e. my uncle speaking from Kansas.  And we would have pin-drop silence in the room when speaking to him, with the receiver on one ear and a finger in the other!

Of course, the phone connections are much better now, alhamdulillah.  But old habits die hard :)

Wassalamu alaikum.

Aslamu alaikum

I won't forget the day when our relatives gave us a phone call all the way from Pakistan just to inform of the "oh so terrible news" (to them) of Princess Diana's death in a car crash. This is how we in London first got to hear of the news about the death, from our relatives in Pakistan. I was told that the person on the phone was distraught in tears nearly, while we were much less bothered about the news, but were more shocked to hear the news from them first.

Assalam ualykum,

Yes, it was sad that princess Diana died. She did do a lot of good.

But people make such a big deal out of it. And then the Americans made such a big deal out of Kennedy's death. People acted like it was qiamat.

Yes it was sad to hear Princess Diana pass away, my friend said it's even sadder that we break the commandments of Allah and break the sunnah and go against the teachings of the last prophet day in day out, night in night out.
Yet how many people cry on this....?

And you guys with the phone well we Gujis do it as well from UK to India, And the first thing that is said is HALLO HALLO, PHONE FROM LANDAN. KOI CHAI?. Only After several HALLOS does the conversation start.!

Keep it coming...
