Assalamu'alaikum,

Just wanna share an event that happened last Saturday.

About 1000++ people came for the big walk... the Hijrah Walk. It's organised by the Young Muslims Secretariat (Singapore), with other Muslim Organisations as well as the National Youth Council (S'pore). This is held in concurrent with the start of the new year, with the hope that we are more aware of the ordeal of Ar-rasul and his companions.

Alhamdulillah, the turn out was good, plus about 100 non-Muslims participated, and alhamdulillah, they are more aware and less ignorant about Islam, as they now know the significance of the Hijri calender and Hijrah itself.

The participants include boys, girls, families with toddlers on strollers, young and old... They walked a total of 18km, and had to hike up a hill called Mt. Faber as well... they started after isha', and completed the route by Fajr... and participate group activities along the route.

I didn't go (had to work on Sunday morning!!).. but I was there to "send" them off.. and of course, got pulled to do the odd jobs here and there!

But subhanallah, it was a really big and cool event, and one can see the Islamic shiar as sisters, with hijab, and trackies with a good pair of shoes, do the walk... and of course, the boisterous brothers, lifting the spirits up!

A really joyous occassion, yet, it does remind of the significance of the difficult journey that our prophet and his companions went... on the terrain and passage, that is way greater than what we went through.

wallahu'alam :-)
