| Assalamu 3alaikum wa ra7matullaahi wa barakaatuh, Sister Kathy, I find it intriguing why you chose to put this thread in the Ikhwaan folder! I hope you are not trying to imply anything :) As to your question, I am not sure how to answer it. From my studies of the tafaasir of Surat-al-Faati7ah (and other similar aayaat), it seems to me that by the word 3aalameen (translate 'worlds'), Allah (3Azza wa Jall) is including the worlds of all His various creations. The world of the Jinn, the world of the Angels, the world of Human beings, the world of plants and the world of animals, to name a few. Indeed, He is the Lord of all of them. Whether or not the aayah implies the existence of alien life-forms would be anybody's conjecture. We know that many aayaat of the Qur'an have multiple shades of meaning and layers of depth. As time passes, many hidden meanings are unveiled to us by the Grace of Allah (3Azza Wa Jall). An example of this is the numerous aayaat which talk about scientific phenomena, such as embryology, which were only discovered very recently by scientists. This aayah of Surat-al-Faati7ah, and others like it, may very well contain other hidden meanings that may become clear to us as mankind progresses further. But then again, it may not! In any case, whether these life-forms exist or not, the message of the aayah remains clear and true. There is certainly worlds other than the human world, and Allah is the Lord (Rabb) of all of them. My son and I take an Arabic class together. We get to pick out words that we would like to learn at the end. He asked for "alien." The teacher did not know and said that concept of "life out there" was "alien" to him. (Ha Ha- I paraphrased a bit) But come to think of it- men are a little bit alien to us....... Ha ha ha! |

| [slm]Ok this reminds me of something... one day a group of brothers brought up the issue of aliens, and for some reason the issue came up of what you would hypothetically do if you saw/met an alien... and someone asked rhetorically: "Would you say Assalamu Alaikum to the alien when you met it? Could they be "muslim" in that they too worship Allah? Perhaps their race also received revelation from Allah in some different form... then a brother said, hey probably you shouldn't say salaam, because he argued that like in this world the non-Muslims are in the most advanced state power/technology wise, then maybe the non-Muslim aliens would be too, and therefore be the first aliens to visit earth... | Assalamu alaikum, I too had to scratch my head in search for the Arabic equivalent of alien (as in space alien). Like Muhannad, the first word that came to mind is ghareeb. Ghareeb means strange or a stranger (carries both meanings, depending if the word is used as a noun or an adjective). But "makhlooqaat fadaa'iyyah" is the closest thing that I can think of, it literally means space creatures. Run that by your Arabic teacher Kathy and see if you can score brownie points :) Wassalam |

| AA I can't remember the ayat, but in Maududi's tafsir, he quotes Ibn Abbas as saying of one ayat that it implies that there are other worlds out there, with their inhabitants, and to whom Allah SWT has sent apostles. |

| slm Me and a brother were talking about aliens and he was saying how all these alien movies and TV shows were the media's way of getting people used to the topic of aliens so that when the gov't finally acknowledges the existence of aliens (alluding to the whole roswell/area 51 type stuff) people won't be so shocked. I told him he was reading too many supermarket tabloids (George Bush is a 10,000 year old alien!) But we both agreed that surah al-fatihah's reference to "Lord of all the Worlds" means that it is possible that aliens do exist. I think it's a matter of personal opinion. I always wanted to ask the imam but felt kinda weird about it. |

| [slm], I do not believe in this story. I think it was just her imagination this time, there have been weird incidents in her life that are true but i find this hard to believe. She had a dream the night before in which some women visited her and asked to borrow onions because they were poor. So she gives them what they ask for and they look very strange. They were extremely tall and their features were human looking but they were very different, they had extremely tall necks too. She asks them where they are from and they tell her that they aren't from this world. And that's where her dream ends. The next morning she is going about her business and there's a knock on her door. Since she lives in a very small town in which everyone knows one another and trust one another the door wasn't locked since it was daytime so she tells them to enter. So they enter into her home and she freezes for a moment for they are the same women whom she dreamt about last night! But having the experiences she has had she quickly regains her composure and welcomes and them and asks what they need. They say they need onions and so she gives them onions. And then my aunt asks them where they live and they don't tell her and then she asks them where are they from and all they say is that they are not from here and leave. Perhaps they were jinns but I don't think they were aliens. But before my aunt formulated her theory about the aliens she asked around the town about them and no one knew of such women nor had they seen such women. By the way she is a far-away aunt, not a close relative. :) She's pretty cool and I believe her on other things because they are quite possible and because some of the weird inccidents my parents testify to. Why not General Musharif who's now the dictator of pakistan? :) If they were aliens maybe there were visiting or something or maybe they had a home in the mountains up there. Or mabye they just wanted to let her know that they exist. The reason that they didn't pull onions from the fields is because they don't grow onions there. What town on another planet? This happened in Pakistan and last time I heard it was still on earth. :) The town name is Dadhar and it is in the state of Sarhad. It is only 30 minutes away from Shinkiari. Shinkiari is an hour away from Mahsehra and Mansehra is about 2-3 hours away from Aptabad and Aptabad is about 6 hours away from Rawal-Pindi. Islamabad is about 7-8 hours away from Aptabad. All this by the car of course, not the plane. [wlm] |

Sorry if you're offended. I've heard stories of people who had "dreams" that they were taken away by aliens in the middle of the night who performed exploratory operations on them. There's also theories that aliens are responsible for lots of missing people, or suicides. eg they take them and when they're done with them they dump them in the river. About the town on another planet..I only meant that if the neighbours drop around to each other for things then how does this explain aliens "dropping around" for onions? | A.W.W, I think all this stuff about Aliens is humbug i.e. nothing but a load of old wives tales. Personally speaking I think many of these Aliens come in the form of Jinns nothing more than that. Think about this if they were really Aliens in this world or the outer world that can come and pop in for tea and biscuits on planet earth and they travel in space via these Start trek spaceships then one thing is for sure they can NOT go beyond the first heaven as it is guarded by Angels, just as the shayateen go to the first heaven to steal news of the coming events and our showered by huge meteors. We know Allah is the creator and Master of All the worlds and that includes worlds like the animal kingdom, the kindom of Angels, the kingdom of Insects, the kingdom of Man/Jinn. I think the the whole thing about Aliens is to take the believer from the creator i.e. fill his or her mind with pointless matter so they concentrate their time and energy on futile subjects. Aliens 3 things to state on this subject I discussed this with some other people in my village whilst sitting outside at night watching the sky (man the stars are so cool at night when theres a cool breeze and NO pollution..plus F16'S flying overhead etc) 1) they said that the the woman who tempted the two angels Munkar and Nunkar was placed amongst the stars with her descendents 2) there have been rumours about lights and other strange things seen in my village in pakistan for hundreds of years..but most people used to call it activity by jinn etc ..by the way the village is very old and contains a huge mound at it's centre which is very very old..so therefore are aliens and other beings just jinn?..remember jinn used to be free to roam space at one time and then they were confined to earth 3) Alien aircraft HAVE been sited in muslim countries most famously when an iranian airforce pilot had an encounter in the 70's and about a few months ago a group of UFO's were seen passing over pakistan from the direction of afghanistan by thousands of people..the us government denied all responsibility at the time remember there are not just other planets but there are also other dimensions and universes...after all that would explain how Allah (swt) could be closer to us than our jugular vein using a literal interpretation ! |

Hmm ok maybe i should first of all apologise if you guys misunderstood i said i was told this in pakistan! i don't know the hadith myself ok? which is why i said i was told this...i didn't say a scholars told me this... secondly with regards to the issue of being closer to your jugular vein i put it forward as an explanation ..in what way does it contradict that? by the way this subject of is allah(swt) transcendent or immanent was discussed ages ago on the board i suggest people read "Roots of synthetic theology in Islam : a study of the theology of Abu Mansur Al-Maturidi" by Mustafa Ceric and then come back to me on that one and also watch 'Literalism and the attributes of Allah' by Nuh Keller You can interpret allah's attributes hand etc as either physical (but not comparable to anything you can imagine) or metaphorical or say 'they are as he says in the qu'ran and he knows best' like i said read the book errm not true actually sometimes the us government puts forward evidence showing that it WAS indeed a weather ballon etc...and sometimes i agree with them..*s* |

| Bismillah and salam I agree, they most definately here! It is so vain to think we are the only creatures. Allah swt said he has created us and everything else in pairs, some of which we don't (won't) know. I often wonder if aliens [i]are[/i]the Jinn mainly because of their fast travel capabilities and the description of their eyes?! What is really weird though is how the prophet saws said something to the effect of that the smartest one of them has the intelligence of a 9 year old human child, but in another account the beloved says (I think I read this in Alashqar's book the world of jinn and devils) that he saw they had something like a glass/watery screen which they could communicate with each other and see each other from far distances which sounds like a tv or a pc to me! Or maybe they are other creatures smarter than us...tagging us with chips (like we do some animals before we put them back in their habitat's) to monitor & study us? Maybe they are just posessions because we are told in Islam that that does happen. yikes i'm giving myself the heeby jeebies! |
