Hi. I am doing a paper for my cultural anthropology class dealing with the issue of polygyny. This is the question: Western observers looking at Islamic societies tend to perceive the presence of polygyny as indicative of the low status of women. Research this to find out how Muslim women in polygynmous marriages feel about this system. Is it inherently oppressive, or is this a Western conceit? Are feminists in the Muslim world focusing on polgyny as a target for reform? I would like to hear any opinions on this topic by anyone. If you have websites where I can find info on this, that also would be a great help. My e-mail address is soccergirl09@hotmail.com
Thank you very much.
