Dear Brothers and Sisters, Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. Are there any good Islamic books on raising children? What about books on women in Islam that would be appropriate for a soon to be 11 year old? All of the books I find in bookstores talk about girls with their boyfriends, hanging out, etc....stuff that I do not want my daughter involved in. I want her to be a strong Muslimah, with good morals and values. Jazakallah Khair for any suggestions. :) Wa'assalam, Serena |

wa alaykum as salaam wa rahmatAllah, I loved the Invincible Abdullah series... And Juwariah J.L. Simpson was my absolute favorite author (I just re-read some of her stories a couple nights ago :)) they're just so cute and good... I loved them a lot, the Four Daughters of Yusuf the Dairy Farmer, and *especially* the Princess who Wanted to be Poor... I'm saving them for my kids :) Also the Wicked Wazir and the Jinn in the Clock.. I don't know if she'd be too old for them, but heck I'm seventeen and I still love reading them :) Yahiya Emerick also writes some excellent kid's stories.. Hope that's helped inshaAllah :) wasalaam. |

[slm] Meeting the Challenge of Parenting in the West is an excellent book by Rida Bashir and Ekram Bashir (husband and wife - two experts in this field). Check it out on http://www.islamicbookstore.com/ For a direct link to the book, click here. |

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu! Jazakallah Khair for the suggestions. BTW - What about videos? I don't watch TV, although I have 2...lol. But if there are some Islamic videos that she can learn from, even me, that will help also. I have seen videos that teach Arabic to children. Do you know if these work? Are they simple? Wa'assalam, Serena |

Assalamo elikuim To learn arabic letter there is a very good vedeo for kids "Alif is for Asad" by astrolabe. It is pretty good (my boys (6 and almost 4) love it) Also I have bought some Islamic fiction stories books "Eemaan seires" from www.astrolabe. These books are written for different age groups by different writers but are edited by Bilal Abu Ameenah. They are also pretty good and there is a Islamic moral lesson in every story (sometimes a hadith is mentioned etc. etc). Wasalam tq |
