Assalamu Alaikum

Someone once told me it was proper to make introductions.  So here I am making an introduction.  I am an American revert living in Texas (believe me I am trying to find a way to relocate)  I accepted Islam almost 3 years ago (3 years in July) and I have been married for 2 years and 2 months.  I have worked in the past as a teacher but decided it ws time to stay at home with my husband becuase we were working opposite hours and "hi and bye" (said usually in moments of passing) were getting a little old.  I still stay actively involved in the Islamic School where I used to teach.  It is also a goal of mine to get some children's books published.  I could talk for hours about the need for good quality reading books for muslim children...but my hope is that you actually finish reading this post instead of collapsing in boredom.  Anyway I will end it here by saying I pray inshallah that this board will challange me to learn new things.

Wa alaikum Assalam

Teacup :)

Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

Welcome Sr Teacup

Are you going to share with us how you came up with your name or I'm always going to think about a nice cup of tea whenever I see your name? ;-)

A.W.W,

Welcome to the board and its members or should I say the family.

Sister Teacup I'd like to know whether you have published any Islamic books for Children I'd really like to know whether this project of yours is in its infancy or whether you have produced something in draft.

Salaam and enjoy your day.

slm Sister Teacup,

like BrKhalid I'm reminded of a cup of tea every time I see your name, but since I've just drank one I won't immediately make another one..

Welcome to our lovely community. Be careful..after about 15-20 posts you get seriously addicted. (speaking from experience).

Assalamu Alaikum Anik

I just finished reading your thread over on one of the other boards here. My conversion story is sort of long so I will give the short version.  I just finished college and I was about to enter seminary o become a missionary.  I decided however to take a semester off and work in a small international church with the international students.  I loved it becuase I just love different cultures and meeting new people. Anyway I had always had an interest in Islam but more out of a misconception than anything else.  So I though hey I am going to get on some islamic chat rooms and try to convert some muslims.  Well that was what I thought becuase in the end they ended up showing me what was true.  I don't think it would have happened though had it not been for a bible study I was giving and I was discussing the trinity.  And in a very defined moment I all of a sudden felt a great detatchement from what I was saying.  It was like I was speaking the words but they had no connection to who I was...to my heart.  I was very shocked by this experience for I realized that this "belief" I had was taught to me and not a part of me.  When I took my shahadah though it was part of me (I can't explain that feeling).  Anyway it was really hard at first though because I was so actively involved in the Christian community where I lived.  My biggest fear was "what are people going to think"  I only stayed there about a year after converting though and moved with my husban to a new community where I became a teacher at an Islamic School.  Anyway that's enough for now.

this is very similar to my moment of "enlightenment". I went to Mass with my mother on Christmas Day last year and the whole thing looked like a circus to me. I couldn't believe it because I used to love Mass with all its pomp and ceremony but on that day I sat in a daze thinking "what are they doing? are they all crazy?"
After Mass my mother turned to me and said "wasn't that a *beautiful* Mass?" I managed to avoid eye contact and mumbled something incoherent like "mmm". and changed the subject rapidly.
