Umrah

I have the unbelievable good fortune that I'm going to Mekkah in August. My parents-in-law are coming over to visit us from Pakistan and before they go back they're going to Mekkah, Insha Allah! I just "mentioned" to my husband that I would love to go along too and he said "Great idea!!". Mainly because I can kind of "take care" of his parents while we're there. They're pretty old and sick.

But then he said that I would need some sort of proof that I'm Muslim otherwise they wouldn't let me in. (I have an Irish passport and the name Eleanor Peters). Does anyone know anything about this? where can I get an acceptable "certificate" or whatever it is that I need?

Another thing..can anyone give me a few links so I can read up on Umrah? I'm as miserably uninformed in this area as in most others.

wa alaikum us-salaam

Alhumdulillah, thats wonderful news sister. May Allah accept yours and your in-laws pilgrimage - Ameen.

In London, new Muslims normally pop into Central masjid and get a certificate from there. I'm sure you'd have a similar setup where you live insha'llah, where some masajid or organisations provide this service.

If the set up in Germany is like it is over here, the Saudi Embassy should be able to guide you as to what you need re a certificate and where you should get it. It’s the embassy that will be issuing your Umrah visa ultimately.

wlm,

eleanor that's awesome!!!  check out the hajj page jannah.org/hajj for some links and articles on umrah to help you out.  as for visa/certificates etc go through the saudi embassy they'll guide you to whatever is required.

may Allah bless your trip and accept it inshaallah :)

[slm]Nothing to add here but I am compelled to post because this is a hajj/umrah thread.

Congratulations Sr. Eleanor...inshallah the experience will surpass even your greatest expectations, as it always does...

I think it's safe to say that all of us are very happy for you but sad that we ourselves don't get to go..:)

Don't let ;-) scare ya about the heat; just drink lots of zamzam and you'll be fine :)

alhamdulilah, this is such a great blessing for you.  May Allah accept your umrah.

Your local masjid will most likely provide a signed letter by the imam affirming that you are a muslim, you can take this to the saudi consulate and start the visa process.

Who's scarin'? I was merely passing on some factual information ;-)

Sr Eleanor try and read up as much as possible before you go so you know what to do.

If you have any specific questions I'm sure the last person to have gone to Makkah on this board won't mind answering them.

Which reminds me good advice re Zamzam and dehydration Br Abdul Basir ;-)
