Asalaamu Alaikum ;-)

This is a forward I received. Seems particularly apt given Sr Saleema's comments in the Ikhwan Health Club recently ;-)

Third Islamic Countries Women Sports Games

The Muslim News will be hosting the UK Playoff to pickthe teams and individuals who will represent the UK at the forthcoming Islamic CountriesWomen Sports Games in Iran in October.

The Islamic Countries' Women Sports Federation (ICWSF) was established in September 1991 to pursue the following objectives:

- To establish and strengthen solidarity among womenof Islamic countries.
- To develop and expand women's competitive sports within the frame work of Islamic precepts.
- To disseminate sport culture among the young.

Since then, the ICWSF has successfully held two international games in Iran. The last annual
conference of ICWSF held in London in Janurary resolved to include Muslim women from the UnitedKingdom. As a result, The Muslim News is holding a tournament in July.

This is open to UK residents only. Participation in the UK Qualifier does not guarantee a place in the team. Minimum age for applicant is 16years.

What???
how many kinds of soccer are there?
Did you mean to say football? As in American Football and not soccer?

Are all these women running around in hijab playing? Sorry for being ignorant but I never knew that this existed. If it's the Islamic Countries Women Sports Games, then how come the UK is sending a team?

This is really interesting. Does anyone have any background info.?

um..i'm not sure if this is the same one that took place at islamabad or pakistan a few yrs ago...where muslim contestants or just women from any country joined in the games...it was closed to the media...n only female participants and women were allowed to enter the arena to watch the game or participate etc..our profs kept telling us to go n visit..but we had exams at the time n it was a bit far off..so.....if i remem correctly....i think they're decently covered but w/o hijab etc..since it's indoors..n only among females. ........? :)
