how rude!

slm,

A woman boarded a bus, holding a baby. The bus driver said, "Wow!!! That's the ugliest baby I have EVER seen!"

In a huff, the woman slammed her fare into the fare box and took an aisle seat near the rear of the bus. She fumed for a few stops and started getting really worked up.

The man seated next to her sensed that she was agitated and asked her what was wrong.

"The bus driver insulted me!" she fumed.

The man sympathized and said, "Hey! He's a public servant and he shouldn't say things to insult the passengers."

"You're right!" she said. "I think I'll go back up there and give him a piece of my mind."

"That's a good idea," the man said. "Here, let me hold your monkey!"

As salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

I hate to be the party pooper but this is something we as Muslims need to know! :( :( :(

Assalamu alaikum
What is the ruling concerning joking? Is it considered useless and vain speech? Note that it does not contain any ridiculing of the religion.
Jazakum allah alf Khair

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Wa ‘alaykum al-salaam wa rahmat-Allaahi wa barakaatuhu.

There is no harm in joking by words and anecdotes, if they are truthful and real, especially if it is not done often. The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to joke but he would only speak the truth. If it is with lying, then it is not allowed. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Woe to the one who speaks and tells a lie in order to make the people laugh at it. Woe to him. Then again, woe to him."
This was recorded by Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi and al-Nasal with a good chain

assalam alaikum,

My aunt lives in Paris, she soemtimes comes over to London and always has a lot of stories about the muslims there. Once she told me this story that I thought was hilarious.

A sister gets on a bus, she is wearing hijab. A french lady sees her, and whispers to her little son:

'be careful, or the muslim will eat you!', to which the sister turns and replies:

'Oh don't worry madam, its against our religion to eat pig !!' :) It actually loses a little in the translation, but funny nonetheless.

O.K I know a little harsh on the kid, but Insha'Allah, at least he isn't afraid of being eaten any more.

very true Jenna, 'mizah', being light hearte` and joking all the time
is a disease of the heart. Its actually quite disturbing, I remember at the rihla Sheikh Hamza took us through a text by sidi Ahmed Zarouq, who said there are 3 types of people. People who use others for:

akhira,
dunya,
to amuse them.

I know a brother who has to joke around every second, it actually irritates people, because you can never get a straight answer out of him, and on occasion I have found his jokes inappropriate and insensitive. But he can't differentiate any more. It took me a while to figure out, but I think loneliness sets in without the constant smart remarks. Serious conversations become a source of anxiety, because now he has to give an opinion and give a supporting argument, and he is afraid of being wrong. I suppose the humour was a defense mechanism to protect his sense of pride in the first place. wa Allahu A3lim.
In any case, everyone I know who is like that exhibits some very hard-hearted tendencies.
Has anyone come across the treatment for it in an Ihsan/Tasawuf or Tarbiya book, I really need to know.

salam wa rahmat'Allah
