Great job contestants!!! We have 5 new players!!! A few people used their lifelines this time. Interestingly enough all asked for Arsalan's answers!!! how about that ;)

The official answer is that:
[color=red]
After making full preparation, the Prophet peace be upon him proceeded to Makkah at the head of ten thousand soldiers on the 10th of Ramadan, 8 A.H. He mandated Abu Ruhm Al-Ghifari to dispose the affairs of Madinah during his absence. When they reached Al-Juhfa, Al-'Abbas bin 'Abdul Muttalib and his family came to join the Prophet peace be upon him. At Al-Abwa', the Muslims came across Abu Sufyan bin Al-Harith and 'Abdullah bin Omaiyah, the Prophet's cousins, but, on account of the harm they had inflicted, and their satiric language, on the believers, they were not welcomed. 'Ali addressed Abu Sufyan to go and beseech the Prophet peace be upon him for pardon and confess his ill-behaviour in a manner similar to that of Yusuf's (the Prophet Joseph) brothers:

"They said: 'By Allâh! Indeed Allâh has preferred you above us, and we certainly have been sinners.'" [12:91] Abu Sufyan observed 'Ali's counsel, to which the Prophet quoted Allâh's Words:

"He said: 'No reproach on you this day, may Allâh forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy!'" [12:92]
[/color]

I think Yusuf (as)'s story is one of the most beautiful in the Quran. The fact that the prophet [saw] would quote his words of forgiveness at a time where he could just as easily have destroyed and sought revenge against his enemies is truly a testament to the beauty of Islam.

Thanx for playing! C U Next Week

Regis.. aka Jannah :-)

P.S. If you put something else and can prove your answer let me know!

Tough question since the last prophet Salla Allahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam was sent as a prophet of Mercy. He freed many people and said the above quote to many.
But I think the person is Abu Sufyan ebfore he embraced Islam.
If I get it wrong your gonna get a detailed answer from me.

answer to question #2 Date posted: 05/01/01 at 14:07:10

#1 The Meccan unbelievers persecuted the Holy Prophet and his followers for 21 years. But when Mecca was conquered, these enemies of Islam were at the mercy of the Prophet (saws) so much that just a nod from the Prophet would have heads rolling on the dust. The Prophet  proposed a question, "Do you know how I am going to deal with you today?" The Holy Prophet (saws) had said, "I tell you the same thing today as Yusuf (Joseph) had told his brothers - No reproach shall be on you this day: Go, I set you all free."

#2 He [saw] was quoting Prophet Yusuf (3layhis salaam)

question #2 Date posted: 04/29/01 at 01:35:27
Jazak Allah Khair for the challenging question :)

Here goes nothin...

A)  The prophet Mohameed, sallahoo alayhee wa salam, was on his way to conquer Mecca on the tenth of Ramadan in the year 8 A.H.

At the place of Al-Abwa, he, sallahoo alayhe wa salam, came across Abu Sufyan bin Harith and Abdullah ibn Omaiyah.  They were not welcomed by the Muslims as they were enemies of Islam.  Ali ibn Abu Talib adivsed Abu Sufyan to beseech the Prophet's forginess as Prophet Yusuf's brothers sought forgivness for their sins (12:91).  Abu Sufyan went to the prophet, sallahoo alayhe wa salam, and adhered to Ali's advice whereupon the prophet, sallahoo alayhee wa salam said to him,

"He said, 'This day let no reproach be cast on you:  Allah will forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy!" (12:92).

At this point, Abu Sufyan declared Allah as the One True God and Mohammed, sallahoo alayhee wa salam, as His Messenger.

B)He was quoting, actually, Allah, because he quoted an aya from the Quran.  This aya includes the words "He said" at the beginning where Allah, soubhana wa ta'ala is preparing to quote Prophet Yusuf's words to his brothers when they discovered him in Egypt.

Question 2 Date posted: 04/28/01 at 23:11:45
Assalaamu alaikum,

This is my final answer. My luck is still holding :)

A. When did the Prophet Muhammad [saw] say words to the effect: "Go for you are free on this day, may Allah forgive you for He is the most Merciful of those who show Mercy"?

This was at the conquest of Makkah (Ramadan 8 A.H.). The prophet [saw] stood at the door of Kaabah and addressed the people who feared a harsh treatment from him. At one point he asked: "O Quraish, what do you think that I am about to do with you?"
They replied, "O noble brother, son of a noble brother, we expect only goodness from you."
The Prophet forgave them all saying: "I will treat you as Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) treated his brothers. There is no reproach against you. Go your way, for you are freed ones."

B. What famous person is he quoting?

Yusuf alayhis salaam. This is in the Quran 12:92:
He said: "This day let no reproach be (cast) on you: Allah will forgive you, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show mercy!

A similar incident also took place with Abu Sufyan just outside Makkah where he pleaded the prophet [saw] for forgiveness. But I guess the above answer should satisfy Regis.

[slm]   These are my answers for question #2:

A. The Prophet [saw] said words "to this effect" to the Quraysh on the occasion of the conquest of Mecca, when he gave a general pardon to the people of Mecca at the time.

B. The Prophet [saw] is "quoting" the words of Prophet Yusuf AS, who had said it when he forgave his brothers.

Assalamu Alaikum May Allah accept this effort and if anything in this humble effort is successful and of any benefit, then, to quote Malik El-Shabazz, "all the credit is due to Allah, and only the mistakes have been mine."

Forgive me for saying this and being frank but Sis Jannah shouldn't all the answers be in b4 the nx question is posted...???
Otherwise if the person gets the current question right s/he will only have a few days of research for the nx one. I think this gives some people advantage over others. What do others think...???.

The person who asks for a lifeline is supposed to get back to me asap, so if they wait a long time to get back with their final answer that's their choice, but i don't think we should penalize the whole group. At least let everyone else start on their research for the next question.
