What do you guys do to relax? I'm so stressed out right now. I'm so edgy that i can't even concentrate on my prayers. Or driving this morning to school. I almost hit two different cars twice.

slm,

block an hour or two of your time and say for this time period i'm going to do .....
and that ... is whatever you want to do stress free! like go for a walk.. work in your garden...surf the web...take a nap...go down to the store and buy some ice cream...

always works for me .. in fact i think i'm gonna go for a hike on the trails :)

I usually go shopping on days like these...for shoes usually, go figure.  It takes my mind off things and is a tried test and true a way to vent :)

Go sit in a park by the lake, listening to the wind blowing through the trees. Watch the birds chirping in the trees and flying around.  Watch the squirrels running around.  Look at the cows eating grass and wonder at the beauty of Allah's creation.  Be thankful for all that you have and pray that Allah (SWT) eases the suffering of our brothers and sisters.

Go and have a one-on-one dual with your little bro on the basketball court!

Or invite "langur ;-D" to your house and have the dual with her!

*Always* works for me :)

There's nothing better than beating up on somebody on the court when you're feeling down ...

Wassalamu alaikum.

Sister Saleema;

As'slamu Alykum;

Your situation reminds me of an incident that happend to a Sahabi during the time of the Prophet PBUH.  The Sahabi's name is Muaaz Ibn Jabal.  While Muaaz Ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him)was sitting in the Mosque and had his head down rested on his hands, the Prophet said to him: "What is wrong O'Muaaz".  Muaaz replied, that: "it had been a bad week for me.  I have a heavy burden of many loans to pay, and I have an uneasy feeling in my heart."  The Prophet then advised him to say the following Duaa.

It is reported of the Prophet  that he said: "No preoccupying concern, or sadness inflicts a bondservant whereupon he says: Allăhumma 'innee `abduka, wabnu `abdika, wabnu 'amatika, nasiyatee biyadika, mădhin fiyya hukmuka, `adlun fiyya qadhă'uka, 'as'aluka bikulli 'ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, 'aw 'anzaltahu fee kităbika, 'aw `allamtahu 'ahadan min khalqika, 'aw 'ista'tharta bihi fee `ilmil ghaybi `indaka, 'an taj`alal qur'ăna rabee`a qalbee, wa noora sadree, wa jală'a huznee, wa thahăba hammee,(152)

except that Allah would dispel his concern and his sadness, and would replace it with ease and relaxation for him."

*** Footnotes
(152) O my 'ilăh I am your bondservant, son of your bondsman, and son of your bondswoman. My forelock is in Your Hands; Your judgement is continuously being carried out upon me; Your sentence upon me is juste. I ask You with every name that is Yours, with which You have named Yourself, brought down in Your book, taught to one of Your creation, or have preferred for Yourself in the hidden knowledge, with You: that You make the Qur'ăn the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, and the despellation of my sadness, and deportation of my [preoccupying] concern.

*** Reporters
Ibn Taymiya referenced it to Ahmed in his Musnad and Ibn Hibbăn in his Saheeh. Al-Albăni said it was sound; although, he had previously thought it not to be. Al-Albăni included this hadeeth in The Authentic of Good Sayings as #102.

I hope this will help a little.  You can always do the following if you ever felt sad, or uneasy about yourself:

1) Make a good Wodu (it will deport the Shytaan away from you)
2) Make the above mentioned Duaa
3) Busy yourself with "Zikir of Allah", for example; (Subhan Allah, wa Al-Hamdu Lillah, wa La-Illah-Ill-Allah, wa Allahu-Akbar).

another way is to yell at sum1 that annoys u!!!, but that isnt dat good!!!

Jazak Allahu Khairan Rodwan for reminding us with this du'aa.  This du'aa is one of my all-time favorite du'aas.  Not only because of its wonderful meaning, but its unbelievable rhythm and eloquence.  Every time I hear the imam say this du'aa during taraweeh prayers, it just has a profound effect on me.

I thought I'd rewrite it using the transliteration scheme that we are following on this board for the Qur'an Words. (see the bottom of this thread for the transliteration chart)

Allaahumma innee 3abduka, wabnu 3abdika, wabnu 3amatika, nasiyatee biyadika, maadhin fiyya Hukmuka, 3adlun fiyya qaDaa'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fee kitaabika, aw 3allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fee 3ilmil ghaybi 3indaka, an taj3alal qur'aana rabee3a qalbee, wa noora Sadree, wa jalaa'a Huznee, wa dhahaaba hammee [wa ghammee]

Wassalamu alaikum.

A.W.W.

Try this out,

Sit in a room or in a park, relax, breath through your nose and out from your mouth. Make no body movements apart from this. Let your brain think of nothing else and don't try to enter any thoughts in your mind, let your brain relax. Keep on breathing from your nose and ourt of your mouth, repeat a couple of times. After  a while you'll feel refreshed.
If not try this, invest in a boxking bag, buy some sparring gloves, and really take your stress out on the bag. I do this twice a week, not only will you become leaner and fitter but you'll also lose tons of stress and and have bags of energy to take on the world.
If anyone wants any more fitness advice let me know, I'll be happy to help.
