Thought some of you (bhaloo?) may like to know about this:

Letter to the Editor [of Al-Jumuah Magazine],

The book review of Natural Healing with the Medicine of the Prophet in
your Al Jumuah volume 11, Issue 3, Rabi'ul Awwal 1420, failed to mention a
very serious defect in the translation. The author, Muhammad Al-Akili,
notorious for a translation work on Dreams (Ibn Seerin's Dictionary of
Dreams) filled with statements of shirk and kufr and falsely attributed to Ibn
Seereen (See the introduction to my book Dream Interpretation According to
Qur'aan and Sunnah), consistently mistranslates ruqya (incantation) throughout
the book (Medicine of the Prophet) as “amulets”!! For example, p.119 he
states “… Anas reported that God's Messenger (pbuh) gave permission
for people to carry an amulet (ruqya) to avert the possible malevolence of
the evil eye, this subsequent fever, and from eczema (namla).” and on page
124 he states, “ Someone asked: “What about regularly carrying an amulet
                        – would he benefit from that?” God's Messenger (pbuh) replied:
“Amulets are beneficial against the evil eye, fever and venomous
stings.” Consequently, this book should not be circulated by anyone
conscious of the implications of such mistranslations without reservation and
Al Jumuah should print a clearly worded warning to readers who trusted their
                        judgement in their book reviews.

                                                          Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips
                                                           May 7th, 2000 Ajman, U.A.E.

Also:

bn Seerin's Dictionary of Dreams is not only unauthentic, it is misleading
and cannot be relied upon by sincere Muslims for guidance. It is of little more
value to Muslims than the Oneirocritica, the most famous book of dream
interpretation compiled by the 2nd Century CE pagan Greek soothsayer
                        Artemidorus Daldianus.

This brief review has been extracted from the the introduction of Dream
Interpretation According to the Qur'aan and Sunnah

                                                          Dr. Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips
                                                              July 1996 Sharjah, U.A.E.

Uzer

I actually don't have Muhammad Al-Akili's translation of Ibn Qayyim's book, "Medicine of the Prophet".  I have Penelope Johnston's translation of the book.
