SHORTCUTS IN THE MADINA

Due to the explosion in the Madina we are going to expand a little and have some shortcuts for people. There may be people who only frequent a certain place in the Madina so after a great suggestion by br himy we have created some shortcuts to get you to where you want to go:

jannah.org/board will now go to the login screen - the gate of the Madina
and jannah.org/madina will get you right to the entire madina - the center of the city!

ShortCuts in the Madina:

    http://www.jannah.org/madrasa --to the Madrasatul Ilm
http://www.jannah.org/ummah -- to the Ummah Community Center
http://www.jannah.org/bebzi -- to the Bebzi Stand
    http://www.jannah.org/mosque -- to the Al-Taqwa Masjid & Library
http://www.jannah.org/books -- to the Shahadah Bookstore
http://www.jannah.org/oasis -- to the Oasis for Youth
http://www.jannah.org/akhwat -- to the Akhwat Cafe for Sisters
http://www.jannah.org/ikhwan -- to Ikhwan Health Club
http://www.jannah.org/kabob -- to the International House of Kabob
http://www.jannah.org/media -- to the Dar Al Hikmah Media Center
http://www.jannah.org/albanyia -- to the All Things Albanyia Apartment Complex
    http://www.jannah.org/uk to the British Souq
http://www.jannah.org/special -- to the special seasonal forum --Ramadan/Hajj/HijrahWay

These shortcuts have also been placed in the HELP!

I don't like the fact that we're taken straight to the login screen for two reasons:
1> At most times, we have more guest users looking at the board than registered users. If you were a person just surfing the web and came across a login screen before you could view the boardmessages, would you hang about trying to figure out how to look at them without having to register? I wouldn't.

Any new surfer whose first glance at the board is the list of all the folders and their themes will have a good overview of where exactly s/he wants to go immediately.

2> I'm auto-logged in (using IE 5.5) everytime i come to the board anyway. And on a side note, do you know what is REALLY cool? I access this board from both home and work; and when i access it at either place it updates the "new" tag in the other place too! I thought all that info was stored locally on cookies.

Kashif, any newcomers would only come to this board via two ways:

- Through a link from another site (ex. the Jannah.Org main page)
- a referral from a friend

In either case, you can simply modify the URL from the old (www.jannah.org/board) to the new one (www.jannah.org/madina - which takes you to the main page of the board), and the problem is solved.

As far as you not wanting to start from the login page, the solution is the same.  Change your bookmark URL from www.jannah.org/board to www.jannah.org/madina

Wassalamu alaikum.

Now I have to modify my web page and have it point to medina instead of board.  :(

Assalaamu alaikum,

Or leave jannah.org/board as it was before, going to the main page. And create a new link jannah.org/login to go straight to the login page. People may have links from their websites going to jannah.org/board (I have one) that would need changing otherwise they would go to the login page, which might be confusing for newcomers.

No the cookie that maintains the new markers is saved on the server and not on your PC. So no matter from which PC you log in your new tag information is current and updated.

hmm jannah.org/login? that could be a good idea

i'm just thinking long term...i'd like to drop the /board and replace it with /login but can't since it's burned in ppls memory :) so at least now /board will go to the login.

      AsalamAlay.com
Peace and e-Greetings to Fellow JannahAddicts,

I humbly suggest that the ShortCuts be listed
      alongside the actual Forum Names.

It's a just a good thing that be listed there,
Say for example, a GUEST lurker, who never happens
to peruse either THIS thread or the HELP! file
would never be able to obtain the JannahShortCuts
      within the Madina.

And of course, MOST of us were Guest/Lurkers Before
we jumped in the deep end and registered ourselves.

      Eh?

Not only that! This Short-Cut Labeling will help all those
LAZY guest people who are too lazy to memorize or write down
or bookmark the Short-Cuts. (Trust me on this one.)

      Also,
These Short-Cuts Labels being RIGHT there alongside
the Forum Name, may ease/encourage fellow 'simply-surfing'
webmasters who may happen upon our Madina City.
As a Guest, they may simply peruse one or few of the forums,
and then decide to LINK their website to the exact short addy
they see here along side the forum name.

I put a few suggestive ways it could look:

We could shorten the 'shortcut' paths to j.org/_____

And/or use Round Brackets around the shortcuts "(j.org/shorty)"

      What Think?

       AsalamAlay.com
Peace and e-ShortCuts be used by you,

       In The Above example,
       The jannah.org/mosque is changed
       to jannah.org/TAQWA.

I suggest this for a coupla reasons:

The Albany Masjid, the REAL one, has its URL as:

       http://www.Jannah.org/masjid.

As most people freely interchange the words Mosque
and Masjid, sometimes by force of habit, they may
enter one looking for the other. Although in either case
they will still find something good, it wasn't what they
       were expecting to find.

Second, it is the "al-Taqwa Masjid AND Library."
Hence the Forum is NOT only a 'mosque' but also a 'Library'.

j.org/TAQWA is a better shortcut umbrella word for both.

I have a personal THIRD reason I really dislike the word
MOSQUE: It's a Spanish Inquisition Catholic word
for 'Mosquito'. That little bug. After Andalusia fell to
the non-muslims Spanish, they called all the Masajid
by the word 'Mosquito' because they wanted to destroy
all the Masjids and their minarets throughout Spain just
as one would kill the mosquito insect without a moment's thought.
Over time, Slang/Laziness kicked in, and MOSQUito was
       shortened to simply MOSQUE.
When one looks into Arabic, we don't find the ARABIC
       PRONOUNCIATION of 'Mosque' anywhere??

(I learned this Fact directly from T.B. Irving in person,
just after Ramadhan 1992. Ironically on the 500th
anniversary of the Fall of Muslim Spain.)

       Now...
...how come Jannah.org/HiMY don't go to my Madina Profile?

slm himy,

that is a good suggestion.. i forgot about the /masjid we made before and now can't change it in case ppl go there. i'll change it to /taqwa when i have the time inshaAllah,

about the mosque vs masjid, i think that now regardless of how the word was derived people especially non-muslims know what a mosque is, it is the english word for masjid. so while i do think in principle we should be progressing towards a more arabic terminology/phraseology, i don't think we should go change all our literature, signs, books etc...i dunno...

         AsalamAlay.com,
Peace and e-Greetings be upon you!

Yeah, I STILL have the same problem with the word:

         Guys.

As in, "What are you GUYS doing in the Akhwat cafe?"

The Word 'Guy(s)' is derived from Hebrew-Yiddish.
It comes from 'Goyem' or non-Jew.

The Jewish word for, well, what we may translate as Kafir.

I personally haven't come up with an easy on the tongue
replacement word for 'Guys'. Dudes? Yars? Buddies? ? ?

As for the Albany Mosque / Albany Masjid url addy,
         Try this:

         http://www.Albany.Masjid.ca

I have been working on creating a TLD, or Top Level Domain,
         for Masjids.

So, in place of www.MosqueName.com / .org / .etc

         example:   http://www.Taric.org
         becomes -->http://www.Taric.Masjid.ca

InshAllah, we will be able to enjoy www.__________.MASJID.

Until then, .MASJID.CA is what I am using
         as a working TLD-Zone.

Like, .co.uk is made up of TWO parts, the .CO for
companies, and the .UK to indicate the United Kingdom.

These .MASJID domain names are of course FREE.

But now my post within this thread is way off topic!!

         Keep Smilin'

your Bro in T.O. (toronto ontario)
