well yeah, i was just wonderin what you guys are gonna be up to durin the summer (preferably islamic activities and such) cuz i wanna get ideas on what other communities do so we can steal, uhm i mean incorporate your ideas within our community and vice versa!

im gonna post some stuff that i know is goin on, and some comments and critques about some of the events that are goin on (or not goin on) in albany soon... (i just am too darn lazy right now sorry)

but one thing that i was wonderin from the albany crew, whats up with not having sunday and friday classes during the summer??? dont you think that muslims tend to have more time during the summer, so therefore making it more crucial to spend that time more in the mosque?? i dunno whats up with that, i really wanna complain! i dont wanna break from the mosque classes just college! ahhhh!! whatdya guys think?

anyways ill post later, peace out, or salam out (you know what i mean)

Assalaamu Alaikum
There are soooooooooooooooooo many things happening in Chicago during the summer (please let 'em all turn out well, ya Rabbi).

The thing I am most excited about is "Taking it to the Streets," an annual outdoor festival.  Find out more about it from IMAN (Inner-city Muslim Action Network)'s website- imancentral.org  It's such a pleasure to work with sisters and brothers from IMAN, mashallah they are wonderful.  Actually the website doesn't have much info on it yet, so let me tell you all.
Basically, in the Southwest side of Chicago (in Marquette Park), every year, IMAN has an outdoor festival for everyone, Muslims and non-Muslims.
Speakers: Imam Siraj Wahhaj, Imam Talib Abdur Rashid, Imam Abdullah Madyun, and others.
Entertainment: All Natural (Chicago-Hip Hop), The Barakats (Milwaukee-Hip Hop), Dawah Ensemble (R&B)
They always have Islamic groups come and perform it's really cool!
Also there are free legal clinics, medical clinics, entertainment, family fun and Games, sports tournaments, food.
The thing is that Marquette Park is a poor area; a lot of the people badly need the things IMAN offers.  It's also a racially diverse area, there is mostly Af. Am., Hispanics, and Arab refugees in the area.
Also what’s cool about IMAN is that the organizers are a diverse group of people.  They are Af. Am., Arab, and Asian; this might seem just normal to others, but unfortunately in Chicago its quite a blessing when we see it. (By the way, did you all know that in Chicago at the same time as ISNA, there will be (in McCormick Place) a huge Imam Warith Deen convention?  Of course over there, people will mostly be Af. Am. while at ISNA there’ll be mostly Asians and Arabs. :( it’s too sad.)

Some of the other stuff that's happening: the Nawawi Foundation is having a huge fundraising event on May 27; it's something like the Zaytuna Institute in Chicago.  They've been having classes during this past semester at various area universities open to everyone; you can find more at their website: nawawi.org
And there'll be the regular MYC (Muslim Youth of Chicago) summer camps (one for bros and one for sisters).

Personally, (besides working as soon as I get a job) teaching one of my friends how to read Arabic, teaching at Sunday school if its possible, coordinating our study circle, working with our MSA shura to make sure we have the best MSA year possible next year, studying Arabic, reading books, possibly volunteering to tutor impoverished youths in passing their GEDs, etc. :-) (inshallah).

(The Awesome Task) If you are let me know insha'Allah.  I see by your profile that you go to UIC, masha'Allah I hear it's packed with Muslims :)

heh heh yeah im up for movin to chicago! is it just me or does it seem like thats the kelwest place to be when it comes to Islamic activies??

anwyays, lets see, to continue with what i was sayin in the beginning, some of the events that i know of (alot of them are already mentioned on the main page) are the islamic retreat, the ISNA thing at syracuse, MYNA, and for the more common and local events, seminars, picnics, and classes on fridays and sundays (which are gonna be done soon anwyays sniff sniff)

but yeah, what do you guys have within your mosques as scheduled events for local events? i personally would like to see more picnics this time around cuz that def is a memrable experience when the events were at its "golden age" 2-3 years ago heh heh, but it seemed like the past two years we barely had any?? jannah do you know whos in charge of organizing them? and whatever happened to our youth group?? (im also curious to how other communities youth group are coming along if you guys have one). i know we always start up a youth group, and it dies out within like a max of a month or so, but i think the communtiy at masjidul hidayah (prolly spelled it wrong), has enough dedicated and sincere brothers and sisters to start it back up, and inshallah have it running, and as one of the things we could do, we could do is organize more activities and events for the summer.

i personally think that the muslim youth, and even parents actually say this as well, look for things to do more during the summer, and it seems summer is the time where we do the least events you know what i mean? i see something wrong with that picture ;-) Allahu alim though... sorry i felt like ranting heh heh
